disappearing skin/outfit

I have used the same skin for a year and the outfits in question for many months. But recently, from time to time my skin and outfit disappears or becomes blotcy and invisible in places. It doesn't happen always. It seems to be random. It already cleared cache and updated today hoping the problem would go away. It did not go away. I normally do not see the disappearance. It's usually only others who notice. How can i fix this?

it's a little hard to tell from your description what is happening.

Some common things:

- it's normal for you to appear blurry for a few seconds (usually twice) when you put on a new skin or a piece of clothing. This is your textures re-baking. You should see this, as well as others.

- There is a recent bug that's making people look gray, or mostly gray, to themselves or (more usually) only to others. Re-baking (CTRL+ALT+R) will often fix it. Sometimes it is a connection issue. Try rebooting your high speed internet modem or router.

- More serious connection problems can make you appear like an amorphous white cloud. Again, this may happen in your own viewer, or in the viewers of others. Clear cache and re-log, and also reboot your modem or router as above.

- SL does not officially support wireless internet. Sometimes it works, but other times you will see problems like the above. Use a DSL or cable modem or FIOS to connect to the internet.

- You may have a corrupt inventory item. Take off all your usual things, and put them back on one at a time. Preferably with a friend looking on to tell you if they see problems.

- If problems persist, you can try deleting and reinstalling the SL software. Or you can try one of the many third party viewers available. I am having good results with the GreenLife Emerald viewer from Modular Systems.

The problem occurs when attaching some articles of clothing. Usually that part of the body to which an article of clothing was attached completely disappears or that part of the body becomes partly visible and partly invisible. Sometimes the second rebake is the time when the invisibilty occurs and sometimes immediately when attaching clothing. What seems unusual, and this may be helpful, when detaching the article of clothing that disappears, it usually shows completelly and normally right at the moment when the command to detach is executed and before in detaches completely. My skin normally returns to normal when clothes are removed.

This seems to occur in both the regular SL viewer as well as when i use Restrained Life viewer.

Yes, I have had this happen to me too and on more than one account. I have not had the effects become permanent to any item. Typically going into appearance mode will fix it---at least for the moment.
