Hi i was wondering...i have this problem....when i zoom out with my mouse my avi's hair starts to disappear. I'm not a newbie...I've been in sl a year now so it's not a question of my not knowing how to adjust hairs. has anyone had this problem. Thanks....BTW this started about two weeks ago.

Is it made of or with sculpties? That would be a huge factor in your problem.

Yes, I have been having this problem too. It isn't just hair from one creator but from several, funny though, only some do it. Course, it has to be my fav. It didn't start doing this until a month ago. If I am in normal view it is fine but if I cam out, I have big holes showing scalp.

I'd guarantee you've got some sculpties in there somewhere. Most of the designers are throwing a few in here and there.

Is there a market in SL for virtual Rogaine?

It's either sculpties or the LOD of the client causing it. I've noticed the LOD is far more aggressive in the newer clients.

I have actually been wondering if the hair designers could provide a bald cap in the texture of the hair, so it would not be as apparent. More work for them, I'm sure, but...

Well I have found out it's not all of them....could be sculpties or LOD.....guess i have to watch what i buy from now on......still it is strange that the problem developed around 2 weeks ago. i have the client version 1.20.15...haven't tried the new one as yet btw.

If you check your client you will see there is not a "draw distance" anymore. The draw distance is calculated automatically, I would money on it that this is the cause. I have noticed avatars show up before there clothes sometimes. I have noticed my partner has bald spots at times, but the go waya when I zoom on her, which I usually do.

It's a problem with the new release candidate and possibly openGL. Scroll in ot out, change angles, move so that you are against a diffeent backgound and generally cuss SL coders. It helps for me.

This doesn't make your hair look any better, but it sure makes you feel better =P

You mean like the root prim? (No pun intended) I imagine it wd be difficult because of the color of the avatar's skin needing to match the "scalp" for one thing. also- the head size might make sizing the hair even more of a headache- pun intended ;)

Of course there is a draw distance. Click on the custom option.

A trick for things that disappear due to draw distance...

Attach a 10m sphere to the object so the bottom of the sphere is near the center.
Dimple the sphere all the way on one side.
path cut the sphere all the way on one side.
You now have a small wedge.
Go ahead and set the texture of this piece to full alpha.

The client treats it as a 10m object rather than a .1m object(or whatever) and draws it more than a few meters away

never knew that (about it treating it as a 10 meter object)
does the sphere have to be the root prim?
I am guessing you mean that it treats all the prims as though they are 10m prims, due to attaching the one 10m prim.
