How often does the Beta grid version of my inventory get refreshed, if at all? Is there a way to force it to update?

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

if you can catch him, I believe Periapse Linden can push the magic button and refresh your beta grid inventory for you.

I'm sure others can as well...

If you need specific inventory items to run a test, contact Data Linden or any of the other Lindens that you find hanging out around the sandboxes in the Beta Grid. They can initiate an inventory refresh for you, so your Beta Grid inventory is up to date. Data did that for me once, when I was testing vehicle scripting issues. I was ready to go within hours of contacting him.

Without intervention, the Beta Grid gets updated each time they release new code, and what goes there is, by default, about a two week old image of your inventory, and of what accounts have access.

I don't think they actually do update the inventory every time they update the code.

Yeah, that's not accurate anymore. Because the grid has grown so much, the inventory refresh takes like 48 hours of full downtime of the beta grid, they only do it on a case by case basis. The snapshot hasn't been refreshed in MONTHS (think back to when H4 started). The problem is that H4's release and mono's beginning actually overlapped by a bit, so there wasn't any chance to refresh the snapshot after h4 went live, without bringing mono testing to a halt for 2 days.

Because updating is so unweildy, they've changed the policy to "one snapshot per project" now.. since mono will be going live soon, they'll be taking the beta grid down for a full snapshot as soon as they're done over there.

We all agree that it’s time for a db refresh of the beta grid. There is now an internal JIRA requesting it of the build team. Please understand that it takes about 48 hours to do the refresh, and the beta grid will be down that whole time. This is why we normally hold off on doing a refresh until just before a new beta debuts.

Unfortunately for Mono, the Havok4 beta was already well underway when Mono went to beta, and there hasn’t been a convenient lull since then. Sidewinder Linden has an idea on how we might mitigate the downtime for the beta grid while we do the refresh. We’ll see if it plays out.

I will ping Bridie Linden about the schedule for the refresh, and then publish that as a notice for the Mono Beta group (open enrollment, join if you are interested, both on main and beta grid).

If the next weeks of testing go super smooth, we will probably have Mono merged into release the first week of June. After that it will go gridwide with the next deploy, probably a couple weeks after merge. Of course, when does software development go smooth?

If you want more details, please come to my office hour on Friday, 3pm PDT, at Sandbox Goguen MONO on the beta grid.
