Even though I've been in SL over a year, I'm still clueless about some things... but today I'm curious about the graphics settings. I get particularly annoyed about how some textures are looking to me, and it seems that I get alot of random blurring. My graphics card is not top end, but its a Nvidia 6800 which I thought was adequate for SL, and I'm not ready to upgrade yet.
What can I do within the preference settings to optimise how SL looks to me without slowing me down drastically and what exactly do some of these things do like the mesh levels and anisotropic filtering? I put that filtering thing on for the first time today and maybe its my imagination, but I think my skin looks 10 times better.

Maybe try the Nicholaz viewer which specifically has a fix for that blurring and handles textures and memory better? The anis...anistrop...that filtering only affects objects that are at an angle to you iirc? Mmmhmm, from Wikipedia... From: someone Anisotropic filtering (AF) is a method of enhancing the image quality of textures on surfaces that are far away and steeply angled with respect to the point of view. For me, having it on doesn't really make an apparent visual difference, but does slow down noticeably. There are pictures and examples and explanations in the Knowledge base as well as on the mesh settings:
