I'm a fool for just realizing this now, but I didn't think it was an issue until I heard rumours surrounding alleged "free premium" account anomalies.

Here's the story:

I was given 4096sq.m. credited to group tier from another resident and was using slightly under 2000sq.m. of it for about 2 months or so to ride-out a bit of a monetary lull IRL. After returning to SL after a little over a week of being offline, I came back to find that the tier had been removed and the resident had unexpectedly left the group.

In the interim pending my Premium reactivation, I had set the group land for sale at a slightly less-than-reasonable price of L$10/sq.m. even though it was halfway-decent roadside/green mainland with low spam at the time. It remained there for the entire month of October until some neighbours of mine offered to take the land to expand their property on November 3rd where I gave it to them for free since they had already bought a parcel in another region and didn't want to raise their own tier.

My first question would be regarding the maximum length of time a group can have insufficient group tier credits before the land it owns is force-released to the governer.

The second would be for any recommendations regarding how I should go about notfying a Linden if the group land had survived longer than it should've, and if I'd need to compensate for any "cheated tier."

And the last for now, would be if I, once again, placed my queiry in the wrong forum. I seem to have a knack for doing that. =\

Hi Amras, I think this is a good forum to ask this question.

From the Knowledge Base: "If at any time a group owns more land than they have land contributions for, Linden Lab will contact the founder of the group and let them know they need to either contribute more land allocation or release land within 72 hours, or else risk losing some of their land."

So in theory, it's three days. I say "in theory" because I am starting to see and hear of several cases where LL neglected to repossess land, both from individuals and from groups. In the case of my neighbor, the land remained in their name for two months after their account was cancelled, and only reverted because I asked for it.

Regarding your second question, I wouldn't worry about it. It would probably cost them more money in labor costs to fix it. If you are very concerned about it, the best way to deal with it would be to submit a support ticket and let LL handle it as they see fit. :)

I concur with the "don't worry" approach. Once there's enough donated tier to cover the group land, the past problem just isn't going to interest LL. While I'm all in favor of LL getting their due, I don't think I'd bother the support channels to try to pay it off in this case; I can't imagine how they'd even be able to take your money, if they could figure out what was owed.

But if I understand correctly that the land is currently not covered by the group tier donations, I'd work to rectify that Real Quick. I, too, have heard of some long delays in reclaiming land, but someday--maybe when the Auction page is looking stable--they'll poke the hamster, and all at once there'll be purple all over the grid. It would be a shame if your group's land fell victim to that wave of "foreclosures."

Cool, 1/4 isn't so bad I guess. :P

Hmm, 72 hours seems like a nanosecond compared to how long it seemed. Though I wasn't the founder of the group, just a co-owner with a friend who didn't want to take time to give me specific land perms. :P

As for anyone contacting him, I'd surely know about it. He's one of the individuals I see referred to as "tin foil hatters." But I'm talking weeks here, so I doubt it was neglect. I'd say they've got their hands full of miscellaneous code ready to just throw it in the proverbial bonfire and call it unrelenting virtual chaos without hope. But I'm sure they'll have it handled eventually; WWII pilots learned how to land a plane from 750km away with no gas, so this is bound to get solved in one way or another.

Heh, if I had the $$$ I'd make my own budget to serve as a suppliment to LL's own budget. More employees, more resources, and more thinkers that way, hmm?

Ah well, thanks. Problem was solved as I rescued my Premium in the knick of time to save me a 3rd of the land anyway. And I've made a few more friends thanks to the whole ordeal. Acid cloud, platinum lining, as it were. :)

Nopers, I meant to imply in the original post that all was taken care of via my neighbours' expansion via my "at-risk" land.

As for said Hamster Theory, I'm sure they'd make a Blog entry about it beforehand. Or at least hint the heck out of it. :P

I don't know about anyone else but when I try to lower my land donated and I need it for land available I get message saying I can't lower my donation. It just won't do it.
I had problem a bit ago with my payment method because of bug on their end.
I was told or read somewhere you have like 30 days to make sure things you owe are paid to SL before they wipe things out.
I prepay my credit to account was told if it goes negative it comes out of my card if I don't do it first.
But I don't trust the new system any more sense they moved the billing department to UK things seems more messed up and their are more bugs so I prepay and use the account credit method to prevent problems.
