Just a heads up to those of you who have, or have been considering, using the SL link to purchase a headset
1. The shipping is $11, not $10 (ok, no big deal).
2. I received not one, but two other people's personal information (since destroyed) in attachments to emails confirming their purchases.
I alerted the company RIGHT away and was told basically "it was a system glitch, don't worry about it".
Nice.
I flipped out
ETA: The question, since the post needs one:
Would you order from them?

Besides there is no need to pay that price for a head set. Just because they are being promotred by LL doesn't mean that they are really any better thanwhat you can buy at Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City or any other local retailer or on the web, ***Hmmmm... wonder why LL is promoting that particular headset... does kickback come to mind?***

I'm thinking if there's a link, there's a deal, but that's possible/potential anywhere.
What really got me was the fact the company sent her personal information on other customers then was just like "oh yeah, glitch"... wtf are these people smoking??

Gasps!!! That is completely amateurish and unacceptable for any merchant doing business on the web. No customer information should be made available to anyone else, ever!! that’s more than a glitch that’s a major screw up. Knowing this, there is no way I could ever order from them. If they advertised $10 shipping, then demand that the shipping be adjusted.

I don't mean to troll, flame or be an instigator, but can ANYTHING Linden gets involved in work the way it's supposed to?

From: someone btw ya should have contacted the other people and let them know I'm not 100% sure that the information on the emailed attachments I received had more information than at first glance. Also my feelings were that the longer I perused their erroneously sent information, the more I would know about their personal information (something I don't wish to get into), I felt that this might serve as an alarm bell. So I suppose, if anyone else has purchased a GBH headset in the past few days, please send me a private message with either your first name or initials and I'll let you know if it fits. I don't want full names and certainly won't give them out, but I recall the names (and, of course initials) at least. This way you can read your own riot act to the morons.

I did order from them, the Plantronics DSP-500 an upgrade from my Plantronics DSP-330? which they are also offering. Both are great headsets and do their job on SL and Ventrilo extremely well. To go back to the original topic. I likely would not order from them again unless it was the only place I could get such a reasonable deal on a headset. I hear a lot of people say, why spend $100 on a headset, to them I say you get what you pay for if you do your homework.

Interesting, that there are no DSP headsets in the 500 number range on the Plantronic web site. I use a DSP350 and it performs quite well with voip and gaming. If memory serves I believe that I paid $30.00 for it. No shipping and handling. Bought it locally. And I can order a DSP650 direct from Plantronic for $59.95 + S&H if I had a need to upgrade.

I gotta ask.... why would anyone want to buy a 'compatible' headset from LL? Don't all headsets work with your system?... I mean, do they have special powers? The headset is a standard ear speakers and a microphone setup that plug into your soundcard or MB plug, the actual sound is controlled by those devices, and the OS, all SL does effectively is pass on the instructions to play any sounds, or receive from a microphone, via the OS API. Next they will be selling PC systems solely for SL .

I don't even have SL voice enabled. You are right, but how large a percentage of the residents don't know that and fall for the "It's got to be better because, a) LL recomended it or b) the it's better because it's compatible with SL line. Seems that PT Barnum expressed an opinion that is still true tioday.

Sucker or not, Tomas, my whole point in the post was not to open a dialogue about the level of my stupidity in using that particular partnered site to purchase my headset. Lesson learned.
My point was to a) ask if anyone else would (in order to include a question) and b) give a heads up to anyone else who might be considering it, or a tap on the shoulder to someone whose information I may have gotten as they may have wanted to contact the company regarding disclosure of their personal information to someone else.

Sorry, that wasn't directed toward you. Re-reading it could have given that impression and I apologize.
