If I send a notecard to someone in-world, will they know who it is from? Or do I have to somehow include a link to my profile?

They can look at it's properties and see who created it

When you send a Notecard, the recipient gets a popup asking if they wish to accept it.

It's sensible to put your name in the body of the notecard so that people don't have to jump through hoops to find out where it came from when they lok at it in Inventory.
It's even more helpful to include your name in the name of the notecard.

When I drop notecards on people - usually an inquiry. comment / request - I name the card as something like:

"Product.X - Inquiry from Sling Trebuchet dd-mmm-yy"
That helps the person keep their Inventory organised.

After dropping the notecard, I follow up with an IM
'Hello, I've just dropped a notecard on you - "Product.X - Inquiry from Sling Trebuchet dd-mmm-yy" '
That helps them to go straight to the notecard in their Inventory when/if they get to read IMs

I also include my name in the body so that its easy for them to respond when they have the notecard open.

Such organisation is the sign of a sick mind....... but we all have our crosses to bear :)

Wait... i've had to jump through hoops to go and create a notecard, search for their name, open their profile and drag that notecard onto it.

I hardly think it's any problem for them to right click, properties. There's even a button to open *my* profile if they wish to IM me back.

"My notecards are capped, send a notecard" reads to me like "I'd rather you didn't bother me, please go away, i'll make it effort to deal with".

IM's to email isn't difficult.

If a customer sends me an IM, they can get a response and often a redlivery or whatever whether i'm inworld or not. Send me a notecard and it has to wait potentially hours before I can log on just to know what the issue is.

as you pointed out in the other part of your post, if you want someone to communicate with you, you make it as easy as possible to do so.

And that's exactly what I do when MY customers want something from me, just send an IM, that's all there is to it.

Right click, properties of a notecard and press the button for my profile is easier than them having to copy and paste into the search field having pressed the button, then press search.

It's less button presses, less activity. I stand by my statement.

Besides, if they want my future business... they'll bother to respond.

I'm a great believer in making it as easy as possible for people to give me what I want from them.
How can I help you to help me?

If somebody's profile asks that they be contacted in a certain way, it makes sense to use that channel.

I've seen both "No IMs please" and "IM is the best way to get me" and "No notecards please".

When I send someone a notecard in-world I normally call it Innula Zenovka to Ann Avatar plus the date, and usually give a one or two word indication of what it's about. Makes it easier for me to find it again, for one thing.

I think I shall put a note in my profile that telegraph is the easiest way to reach me (but semaphore or Aldus lamp will work as well).

I do prefer it when the customer does put their name on it as when I right click properties I don't know for sure the person who sent it was the person who created the original notecard.

Sometimes people do use old notecards with new text, or someone writes the card for them, especially when the person is new.

My IMs cap, and I do request that people send a notecard. I don't use the IM to email option. I do state pretty clearly in my profile that I do care about people's messages...enough so that I prefer they send a notecard so that I can make sure their question/query/request/comment is not just read and forgotten.

I also make sure the notecard bears the sender's name if it is a customer service issue, and place it into a file once it has been dealt with, so that I can refer back to it easily at any point in the future if need be.

Oh dear: if yours is sick, mine must be positively depraved. OCD much?

Thanks for those suggestions, Sling. They answered my query nicely.

I think that's how the ancient Romans and Greeks opened their letters, wasn't it? It's a good way to do it. The person I needed to send the notecard to might not have been able to deal with it right away, so I was concerned that she might not remember who it was from. This would have solved that problem. Thank you.

A good point I hadn't thought of. Definitely going to include my name in future.

That's the problem behind my using a notecard in the first place. I have noticed that IMs to people don't always get through. Plus it's just a lot easier, for me anyway, to write out a notecard: one can write in more detail, include pics, etc.

Argh when will the fairy tale about "my IMs get capped, please send a notecard" end? Don't you know inventory offers are capped, too? Better read , chapter "Chat (text)"!

While you don't get the accept option when you are capped on notecards, they do appear in your inventory. My IMs are capped daily, but I do find the notecards.

I do seem to be able to get notecards through to people where IMs fail. It might not be guaranteed, but it has a better chance of succeeding.
