Recently, I have been getting dark green text messages in Local Chat from a source I cannot identify. These messages are spam messages.
I thought that dark green text messages represented a "whisper," which I would only receive in close proximity to the source. I routinely see the dark green messages from people's attachments (like the translator attachments, or the omnipresent talking body parts).
Is it possible to receive a dark green message (a whisper) from something that is nowhere near me?

Green can be chat from objects, or instant messages from objects. For the IM case, the easiest way to track them down is to leave IM to email turned on, and wait for one to arrive while you're logged out. That will give you the location of the spambot.

I actually have one of the spam messages received in my e-mail. Never thought of reading it. But it gives me the name of the object owner, so I can be sure to contact (and mute, if necessary) the right person.

I have this Green Text that is being spammed to me, it's in local chat though, I tried everything... relogging, reinstalling SL, deleting my cache, taking off everything and putting my character back to defaults. Anyone have a solution to getting rid of this spam?!
Please help!

Ok, if you are sure it's chat, bring up the history window (ctrl-H) and expand the list of speakers with the <<< button. The next time it comes through, you'll have a few seconds to see what object it came from, you can mute it from there (and if you click on the button with the head, you'll see the owner's profile).

I'm sorry, I wasn't specific... this green text isn't from an object or group. I got griefed upon, and when I got hit, (I forgot their name) this green text is thrown up, wherever I am.
[12:56] Green PaineRRRRGOIAAIGIEREEYARERIYRREEEFRREGEOEGFARUIEYEGRREE: FOIEAYEIGEERAIYEAEYGREOEREEIOUARRGOOIYAEGOERIUAIEYGEEERAOUYRRIAERRUAEOARRORAOEAGUEEERARRRUEEYUYEIIRE
The next thing you'll tell me to do is mute the guy named "Green Paine", who would send me chat spam and be dumb enough to put their own name on the script? Well it's not the original person that put this lame thing on me.
Anyway, I need advanced help. General help won't cut it.
I'm not a noob. lol.

That text looks like it came from a fairly common griefer object, and it probably is IM and not chat. If it's green text, it's an object named Green Paine, so you will need to learn its owner.
Either you can take the email approach explained earlier to try to locate the probable IM source, or you can confirm it's chat by using the history as explained earlier.
Or, you can use an libSL-based client that will tell you the location of the originating object whle you are logged in.
Or, you can simply live with it, since you don't seem willing to try the approaches available to you.
(There is really nothing "advanced" about this, it's just messaging.)

Please help! You IMed me in-world about this. Sorry I didn't respond sooner; I don't respond quickly to sudden IMs from people I don't know. I learned who owned the object spamming me by checking my e-mail. Since I have IMs forwarded to my e-mail when I'm offline, and the spamming object IMed me once when I was offline, I had the IM in my e-mail. At the bottom of the e-mail, I was informed of who owned the spamming object. After that, I contacted the owner of the object and asked her to stop her object from IMing me, she did as I requested, so it was no longer a problem for me.

Yeah, but it's flooded in my local chat, not an IM window.

Instant messages from objects do not appear in IM windows. They look just like chat from objects, regular green text.

This is wonderful advice which worked well for me recently!! My screen was blitzed over the weekend and I didn't know what to do, until I read this thread. I found out who was sending it using the "history method" and sent "her" a warning, it all stopped it immediately!! What a shock it must be to these Griefers who have spend 800-1000L$ on something which is supposed to be anonymous, but in fact is nothing of the sort!! There are several tools "in world" which will send these out, and many fools who'll be conned into buying them! Many thanks!
