Tiering Down - What am I doing wrong?

I'm on my account page, where it says "Update Tier." I'm trying to tier down.

I put a check in the place for "0 dollars a month" (radio buttons) and click "Save Changes" (which is above where you can check the amount of tier you want) and it does nothing.

It does nothing for any of the values below the price I'm currently paying

I don't want to test it for tiering UP.

But I can't tier down. What am I doing wrong?

I own no land, and haven't in some time. (Wish I'd noticed that before!)

coco

P.S. This is very angering.

Do you have tier donated to a group or something? If you do,you need to go take it out of that group before the webpage lets you tier down.

Are you maybe still contributing tier to a group?

No, I had nothing donated to the group.

I've also just now left the group, and that didn't help.

Next, I'm going to leave all my groups and see if that helps.

Good idea. If that doesn't help, you'll need a support ticket, I guess.

You can't tier down in the current period.

The tier downgrade seems borked, I've had a support ticket in about it because the option to tier down to my current level wasn't there, it's there now but doesn't save the changes.

However the tier fee I paid this month, was the correct fee, despite what the tier page says, the amount in your My account page is more important.

Have I confused you?

Ok I have left all my groups, except for one I have just for fun that has only 3 people in it (all me), and owns no land.

(I don't want to leave that, because I'm not sure if you have to have 3 people in a group, or 2, before it is automatically disbanded.)

So this means that he'll have to pay tier in yet another period? That sounds broken indeed!

Of course, it helps the LL bottom line, but let's assume yet another bug instead of evil intent. :o

It's 2 nowadays. Used to be 3 before.

Yes, you have.

What do you mean, "You can't tier down in the current period?" When CAN you tier down, then? If a person checks a radio button to tier down, should it not reflect that?

The amount in the My Account page also reflects no change. It still says I am at the higher tier level, and will be charged accordingly.

I also want to take this account to Basic, rather than Premium. I was reluctant to do that first, because if you do things in the wrong order, strange things can happen, lol.

However, I do have another thing to try - which is to remove my credit card information.

Course, that might not work, either.

This is a pretty severe level of borkage, if they've got it so you can't tier down.

Whatever it says your next bill date for tier is, after that date it SHOULD reflect back to zero. it will not reflect zero until that last tier payment for the month is made no matter how many groups you quit or radio buttons you press.

OK, now figure THIS out, friends and neighbors!

I go to the account page and click the radio button to downgrade my membership to a basic account.

And THIS is what it tells me:

An error occurred while processing your request
• We do not have your credit card on file. To update your payment method, Click here.

Well, if that is the case, how the hell are they managing to charge me?

So now I can't tier down OR go to basic.

OK, I think I get you - it will say this, and will charge this, on the next date (in order to account for my land use for the previous month, which, by the way, there was none).

And then after that date, it will show back to zero.

So I have to wait till then to see if it has?

If so, why bother with the dang buttons, if you can't really change them? (To your knowledge.)

And what the HECK is this with not being able to downgrade to basic? And not having a credit card on file, for God's sake?

Give billing a call.

Their number is in the support portal. When I last had a query they resolved it in minutes for me.

Regardless of what level of tier you are at, you should be charged only for the maximum amount of land you owned during the previous month. So if you owned no land and do not have tier donated to any groups, then you should not be charged any tier.

From: someone
The Land Use Fee is a monthly charge for the peak amount of land held during the previous 30 days, including actual parcels held and land tier donated to groups
.

Yeah you pay tier for the amount of land tier you've used this billing period, you pay mainland tier behind. The bill should change after your next payment if you've removed tier from all groups and sold all your land.

If you go to your my account page you'll see:

Land Holdings
Allowed holdings: xxx square meters
Current holdings: xxx square meters
Available for purchase: xxx square meters
Peak square meter usage: xxx square meters
Total monthly cost: xxx

On the left of the my account page under land there's a group land link, this tells you exactly where your group land donations are.

Peak square meter usage is what you've used this billing cycle, if that says 0 then contact Linden Lab asap as you shouldn't be billed. The available for purchase is rather important as that indicates whether you've got land donated to a group.

Regardless, I have no land, and have no land tier donated to anyone. (And haven't for over a month - due to my own stupid oversight.)

I have a premium account, and it won't let me downgrade to basic.

When I try, it says the credit card is not on file. Yet they charge me on this card every month.

I'm on hold now to the billing line Bee suggested.

P.S. Wish I'd gone to pee first!

Haha Well, OK - billing finally answered, said they were having a "bit of a problem" with the system, and downgraded and denuded this alt of tier.

So there will be no billing for membership on the 14th, and there will be the last billing for tier on the 14th, which is as it should be.

Thank god! I can now go pee.
