Hi! Quick question, I have an apartment and came in today to see some other owners furniture placed in the middle of the floor. It was 4 pieces of furniture. I did click on to see who the owner was and IMd him to tell him about the furniture- but how could this have happened in the first place if my apt was locked? (or so I thought it was.. hmmmm) Thanks for your help on this simple question.

First, locks are useless. Someone can just go around the wall/door. Cam in, sit. Second, do you have object creation on and autoereturn off?
Also, one need not be IN the build to put things there. One can rez a prim, then edit its location.

Locking doors doesn't really do much in SL. It is more a way of telling people to stay out. People need to notice that and be nice enough to respect that. People can still cam in and sit on things etc. The only way you can really keep people out is to do ban lines or security orbs etc.

Sound like you need to set autoreturn on - you do that by using the Options TAB in the About Land window - just set it to 1 to return other people's objects automatically. It could be that a neighbour was just editing the objects and accidentally slid them into your appartment - and lost them.

If you have nearby neighbors it is mostly likely that they were editing and lost control of them. I have had it happen before. One of my neighbors once returned on of my doors. And asked why I left a door in their living room. I laughed and told them that I lost it with one of those little bugs you have when moving things from the wrong angle, and it just zooms off into the distance somewhere.

IM your landlord and explain the situation. Let them know the furniture is there and is in your way. If they are reliable folks then they should handle it for you fairly quickly. But give them at least 24 hours since they could be on the other side of the world

It could be that a neighbour was just editing the objects and accidentally slid them into your appartment - and lost them. If you're in a multistory apartment building, that won't work, since you're sharing a parcel of land with several others. All the residents on the parcel will be able to rez objects, in any of the apartments sharing the parcel. You just have to be patient and work these things out with your neighbors. The only real solution is to rent a detached home on its own parcel of land.

I did this once when I first joined the game and living in an apartment. All of a sudden I heard someone yell, "Who's bed is this!!". I was all Ms. innocent until they looked at who the owner was *turned red*.
