I live on a largely very nice mainland sim (/me hopes she didn't just tempt fate) but one of my neighbours has a small mall. Above this mall he has a huge floating 10 x 10 x 60m high floating mega prim box, covered with (I think) images of the Chinese Communist Revolution.

I've screened off the mall at ground level with trees, but does anybody have any ideas on how I can screen off, or at least minimise, the view of the giant box?

Thanks :)

Hmm, a large prim with a sky texture would look out of place with the changing sun. A blimp or balloon maybe? Other than just reaganging the layout of your land so that you ar not normally loking that direction, there is not much I can think of without seeing the place.

If it was me that was dealing with this, I would first contact the owner of the megaprim and ask if that thing was needed.

I would then check my sim stats to see if they were running decent.

If the owner was not cooperative, and the sim stats were normal I would shoot hiim...hehe...ok...scratch that.

If the owner was not cooperative and the sim stats were bad, I would contact LL and file a report telling them that teh sim was running poorly, and that I suspect a mega prim. It may not be that, but it wouldn't hurt for them to come out and take a look...I've seen too many bad mega prim builds to let them get off easily.

If LL came and saw nothing worng, then I would tell teh neighbor that I am going to put up a screen that would hide his ugly mega prim..and that the screen would have an ugly image on the side facing him.

you can buy large privacy screen textures...get a mega prim and set it to phantom with a nice landscape texture on your side and a picture of Beavis and Butthead on the other facing the neighbor. :-)

sorry...I'm a little bitter when it comes to idiot neighbors and their complete lack of caring. I try to make my land plot a pleasure to look at, and I expect the same....I'm sick of the ugly buildings I see all over SL.
Thats why I sold my mainland recently and moved to a strictly residential island.

Honestly, nobody wins in an escalating neighbor war.

My advice would be to take the high road: Talk respectfully & reasonably with the neighbor first, and give them an opportunity to fix the situation first. Escalate to Linden via an Abuse Report if you feel ToS or CS is being violated.

If that doesn't provide acceptable results - build a screen that's invisible from the outside. Building something equally obnoxious in retaliation may be tempting - but that may not only escalate things undesireably for both of you, all the other neighbors around you both will reap collateral damage as well.

I have the same problem with the sky. Ad Farms, aircraft running, giant key looking things. I did put up screens with a sky scene. Granted it would be nice to see the night but at least my sky is better than the other views I had.

One solution I have used with success before is prims set to phantom with an invis-prim script dropped into them...

Many items in SL have alpha textures, and since the invisiprim blocks those, they effectively disappear (especially when things are elevated - putting the invisiprim above my place blocked out a lot of stuff, and I only lost the clouds when looking up)

Flip side is, my windows and alpha textures disappear as well when people are looking at my place from the other side of the invisiprim...but, when it's above the land, most don't notice anything.

Then again, I have since decided to rent on a private sim to avoid this kind of stuff altogether.

Somebody gave me this thing called Ad Kills it makes things transparent but not totally. It good for small areas like blocking ugliness out of your windows or small areas.
I full permissions I can send you a copy if you remind me later.

The 'standard' invisiprims have a script that swaps the invisi texture at intervals.
Having play with invisibility textures, I'm unconvinced of the value of doing this.
If you have acquired an invisiprim, then just delete the script and then texture the 'outside' face of it with whatever pleases you. Many would suggest that a transparent texture would be best.
If the prim is actually above your place and horizontal, then something creative that will appear on Map might be fun.
