Lost Attachment

Somewhere and somehow over a week ago, I lost a Multi-Tool attachment when I TP'ed from my land to a store in another "region". It was one of those "Hug/Kiss/...etc" tools.

Since then, every time I leave my land via TP or flying, I am bombarded with messages (IM) from this missing attachment. It had filled up my E-mail to the point that I was getting over 1000 E-mails a day, and had to cut off all E-mails from SL.

I have checked through my inventory and the attachment, script, and animation have all been purged completely in an effort to shut this thing off. All to no avail.

I have sent one "Bug Report", and the only advice given was to secure the E-mail...which has been done. But I still get a crowded screen of Green IM's any time I leave my land.

Is there any further "cure" or am I cursed with this silly missing attachment until doomsday?

What is the message you keep receiving? And have you tried detaching all attachments?

WOW! That's bad! I'd ask the same thing: have you tried detaching all atachments including totally unrelated ones? Does the message still appear?

Could it be you accidentally dropped the attachtment on your land as opposed to detaching it?

Dunno, hopefully someone will come along with an answer for you.

Good luck :)

In fact go to 'Worn' and take off everything you possibly can.

Is it possible that you dropped the thing on your land? It would be helpful if you could share the exact message(s) you are receiving ... and in which circumstances.

Does it happen when you cross parcel boundaries? Is it distance related? Does the height matter at which you leave the parcel? Does it also happen when you leave sandboxes? What happens if you just fly up? Does it matter what (prim clothing and HUDs) you wear?

If you're getting email from a scripted item, it'll include the exact location of the item in-world. All you have to do is tp over, turn on transparent, find the multitool and pick it up.

Or you can copy/paste a copy of the email here and someone can help you in-world.

Elessar, it loves you and wants to be with you. But it does indeed sound like it's stuck somewhere on or possibly even in your land. Is your land "quiet" enough that if you turn on beacons for scripted objects you could perhaps see it?

It is also dimly possible that it is still attached to you in an unlikely place, but I bet you've already checked that ...

That happened to me once with a Multi tool and I had to go back to where I dropped it and searched for it for 2 hours before I found it imbedded into the ground and was finally able to delete it and shut it up.

That's a very good point! Watch out for the lines reading (substitute the values in curly brackets):

= {whatever it is} is owned by {somebody, most likely you}
= http://slurl.com/secondlife/{region}/{x}/{y}/{z}

This will tell you where the darn thing is hiding.

I cannot log into SL right now from here, but will later and "quote" the IM's I recieve. Can't download SL at work...

I do recall that it refers to "Unknown location"....

To answer other questions, I have no idea where this thing disconnected! It happened when I TP'ed from the land and apparently was hit with some glitch in the process. I remember my sunglasses were askew and the necklace My Lady gave me was halfway down my chest. I have tried to search on and below our land (I was making a basement/cave) but cannot find it at all. I have tried to use all the "beams" and "transparencies"....they have not worked, either.

I have "detatched" *everything* several times - dressed - undressed - etc. Nothing seems to eliminate this pest. I even unloaded/reloaded SL twice...no joy with that.

We/you need the contents of the email it sent :).

It'll look something like (obviously the details will differ :)):
From: Subject: Message From Second Life
The object 'MultiTool' has sent you a message from
Second Life:
You dropped me on the floor and left me behind. It's cold here and I'm all alone. Come pick me up!

= MultiTool is owned by Elessar Bikcin
= http://slurl.com/secondlife/Somewhere/123/123/123
You'll need to turn on transparent (View / Highlight Transparent) since a MultiTool is usually just a small transparent sphere.

The easiest way to look for it is to tp over, then back away a few meters (not too far) and then use the Map to click near you and adjust the coordinates to those of the email. The red marker beacon will show up in-world, giving you an easy visual indication of where to look/cam for it.

---

If you don't have a copy of the email anymore, and you're not getting any new ones, then the IM is still useful to get the exact name of the item. You'd then use a script to get the location of the item and do the steps above.

If you can't figure things out and I'm still online, give me a nudge in-world, or make another post asking if someone can help you in-world when you do log on later :).

Did you search for it with highlight transparent on?

If you received those IMs to e-mail you should still be able to get the inworld coordinates from your e-mails if you can access those where you are and if you saved them that is. For all you know someone could take a look for you.

If gambling wasn't illegal I'd put money on it hiding on the land somewhere.

:)

I did try the "highlight transparent" once...perhaps I can attempt that again....and be patient this time. I just don't know...<grumble>

Thanks for the replies....I'll try again after work.

Kitty...

I found it using this (again)! This time, I went underground where I was constructing the basement/cave, and located it in a pile of rubble.

Thank You....and everyone who offered "tips".

That is what these threads are for....assisting each other!

a little late in replying, but it sounds like the same sort of script used on pets. glad you found it. i know how annoying that can be.
