Timeshare Sim?

I have a full sim build project in mind that I've been working on in bits and pieces. I'm getting to the stage where I need a bigger area to work in but don't want to order an island yet and pay tier for weeks or months for a work in progress when I can only dedicate perhaps 10 or 20 hours a week to it.

What I'm wondering is, does anyone rent a sim by the hour/day? Or is there any kind of timesharing of sims going on where I could get exclusive use of a sim for 3 or 4 hours at the same time every day?

I would anticipate taking all the parts of my build back into inventory and the sim being reset in the same way as a sandbox.

If this doesn't exist, would it be a viable business model for some of you land owners?

Ask yourself this: How would an island owner make money off of this arrangement?

I needed something similar for a large build project I was working on, before it was possible to get hold of the land.

I simply found a large sandbox that was fairly quiet, just after it had reset, and found people didn't seem to mind me taking over most of the region, as it was quite quiet.

Failing that, there are a few empty regions like Bug Island, Linden owned, that are set for something like 30 minute autoreturn which might be sufficient for some of your larger bits.

You can 'hire' from Linden Lab for an event, but I don't recall the details offhand. It might be possible to persuade them to let you use a region for a "non event" if there are no other bookings for it.

Erm... by charging for it. As an example, I'd be prepared pay $50 a week for 3 hours use a day. At 50% occupancy that would give the island owner $866 / month.

I'm pretty sure you can rent an island from LL. Not sure on those costs though. If you're intending to pay the island owner in question, I'm sure there are lots of us that might be willing to let you quietly work. Unfortunately, I'm out of prims nearly and am rebuilding myself, so already having two and a half levels of stuff...yeah. No prims :)

At that rate, why don't you just buy an island? Gonna be much cheaper in the end, though I know you said you didn't want to buy one just yet. :) Just seems like you could save money in the long run, depending on how long you need to be building for he he.

Yes, I agree mostly and I may end up doing just that. I was trying to find a way of avoiding paying full price for something that I potentially won't be using for 80% of the time (RL work and sleep interfere), until such time as I manage to get the build completed.

I was also curious as to whether anyone had tried renting a sim on a time basis rather than an area basis.

Thanks for the replies:)
