... and comment on the most recent entry there about statistics. I already inserted a pointer to the excellent thread from a week or so ago about how many campers there are.

Was this from the camping thread where the math assumed that everybody at a busy place was camping?

It was this one Maede: /142/d6/212151/1.html

If LL would just release some more realistic stats, not only would Fluf not be driven to modelling based on a patchwork of assumptions, but analysis firms would not be able to just make up numbers based on their own less-informed patchwork of assumptions. I would love a pile of blog comments turning the question back on LL: REAL NUMBERS PLEASE!

p.s. comments only at 69 at this moment

Though I appreciate Fluff's work in gathering stats, I think there were unanswered questions about hir methods.. In particular:
From: Fluf Fredriksson
First I looked at the "Popular Places" list. Jotted down the traffic numbers and checked on map for how many campers they has on each one

My question on that was how could he tell zombie campers from people who were actually there. You can't see that detail from the map..

Nobody in their right mind disputes that camping happens, that it's gamed and that it skews stats about the population. That said, without more detail on how Fluff did his study, it seems pretty biased towards proving that camping "is big!!" rather than being impartial. It's kinda like saying "your numbers are skewed and here's some other skewed numbers to prove it!"

Statistics always lie, or at the very best give us a very warped image of reality ..... rather like these forums:))

It is your fallible view of reality that is the problem. This *reality* you are so fond of isn't real, it is a construction of your imagination...

Perhaps, on the other hand, it is your acceptance that a few dozen or a few hundred people can actually tell us how thousands or even millions of people experience *reality*, as you call it, that is rather fallible:))
