Having use the Nic viewer for a while I was getting a lot of client instability, so thought ... go to the new voice client.... and its JUST as bad. Most folk I talk to are crashing rougly once an hour,,,, ive counted 9 times today so far for me.. normally when im trying to move a prim or edit a texture. Im not gonna throw my toys out the pram but something isnt right...... done cashe etc .. still nothing.
Anybody else have a lot of crashes
Marty

I seem to be having an unusually stable time with the SL Release Candidate version. The Nvidia freezing bug seems to have gone too. Downloaded it Friday. Worth a try maybe? http://www.secondlife.com/community/downloads-optional.php

Constantly crashing, wasn't like this before voice. Log in advance forward, SL shuts down instantly. Now I wait a few minutes after logging in before doing anything. Camera pan or simply turning 180° causes crashes also.

When my client (any client I've used in the past month) freezes, I openned Task Manager and have seen eachtime 2 versions of SL running, once the freeze goes, it drops back to one. I set affinity to one core on both the SecondLife.exe and the SL voice programmes but that didn't cure it. I'm wondering what has changed in the last round of clients that seems to be screwing with Dual Cores again? The last 2 client updates included 'better Intel Dual Core recognition', I'm wondering if that has now borked the AMD settings?

Marty I'm getting a lot of complete freezes that look a lot like a crashes. But if I wait then the client doesn't crash and does eventually sort itself out. At first I was shutting SL down assuming I'd crashed but now I give it a few looooong moments. And it's not just me either. I was hanging out at my favourite place with friends and we all experienced the freeze at the same time. When the cloud passed everyone was saying 'oh thank god, I thought I'd crashed'

Marty,
I believe the most stable client currently available is the Nicholaz Beresford's old school (non voice) version. Try his version if you have not done yet. The Voice introduction has also brought back some of the old problems with the client memory usage. Cheers

Hi Alt,
That was the version that i moved from BECASUE it was crashing..... this has happened heavly since "black wednesday" you know the update where Sl was down for ANOTHER 15 minutes for 8 hours. It is definately a crash, i.e send report etc. Never USED to happen untill the latest infrastructure upgrade, lets be honest it runs like crap.... that day that started my post I crash over 30 times in one ... cleared cache etc ... you name it its gone flakey *griN8 yet i still play

I am using the old pre-voice client on Windows 2000. I am on several hours a day and only crash every few days. I think that explains where the problem lies.

If I wait awhile it jumps back. This has only been happening the last few weeks.

I'm usint the Nicholaz voice viewer, on 2000. I can run for 48 hours(constant) or more without a crash. Slightly less bloated OS's FTW!

I would also be using Win 2000 pro (it never gave me a single problem) except I need Win XP to be able to run my dual video cards in SLI mode.
