This just started recently. I can't fly up. I hit the fly button on the bottom of the viewer and I go into fly stance but then I hit the page up button and I go into that stance too but I don't go anywhere. And there isn't anything above me, I tried on a empty sim. I even maxed out the flight assists on my huds and still nothing. Any reasons for this I am missing?

Just to confirm that you're not going crazy: I recently had this problem, too. Unfortunately, I can't remember what I did to solve it, but it was probably one of the following (in order of increasing unpleasantness):
- Relog. - Clear cache and relog. - Delete the app settings files, clear cache, and relog.
If the last of these, there's probably some setting in Advanced that caused the problem, but I have no idea what it would be now.

Have you done a "Detach All" to make sure you don't have any scripted objects attached that might be interfering? Flight aids in particular.
One could pretty easily have a subcutaneous flight aid or an off-screen HUD flight aid that is malfunctioning and not be aware of it.
What viewer are you using? I think some third party viewers might have a "no fly" mode built in to the viewer.

Also, check that the parcel or sim you are in isn't flight disabled. Some places, like many RP sims have flight disabled.

I use the flight assist in my Mysti tool and for some reason, it started acting up a month or so back - right after one of the server changes. The Mysti-tool group told me to detach the tool and reattach it -- and that did solve the problem. I have had to do it a few more times in the past few weeks.

Thank you all for the suggestions. No it is my home lot that I have had for a year so I know for a fact I can fly there but I have also tried it other places too and no luck. I have done everything here except delete the app files like Qie Niangao suggested. That one gives me the creeps LOL but where do I find them and if I delete them it won't do any damage will it? And I am using the most updated SL viewer.

this has happened off and on to me for a couple years lol. You hit page up and hold to fly and once your in that hover fly mode you don't do anything, and you can't fly up, and you can't land either. Well you can land, but you need to hit the stop flying button below and you fall about the 3 meters back down to the land.
It isn't about the no fly land, it isn't about AOs. I've tested it when its occured with all the mentioned possibilities in this forum. Its an unexplainable bug.
THE FIX.......
Just relog. You don't have to do all the clearing of cache or anything else. Just relog is all and it will go back to normal.
BUT....
Always check the grid status page before you just log out. You never know if there is an issue where you won't be able to get back in for a while.

For the regular SL viewer on Vista the settings file is
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\user_settings\settings.xml
On Win XP it's C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings\settings.xml
You may need to make hidden file and folders visible in Explorer in order to navigate there.
On XP, in the Windows Explorer menu, it's Tools, Folder Options, View, check the radio button for "Show hidden files and folders".
I don't know if Vista is just the same or not.
You might try the latest Release Candidate version of SL and see if that helps.
Or you might try an older video driver. I know that doesn't make sense but I've read numerous reports of video drivers causing weird problems unrelated to video.
Deleting your settings file should cause no problem other than being shown all the annoying new users dialogs.
You could try going to Preferences, Input and Camera, and toggling the Fly / land on holding up / down option and see if that changes things.
