I am staring work on some houses to sell and would like to get some ideas from other residents as to what styles, feature, etc people would be looking for. Right now I am finishing my first, a 2 story alpine inspired cabin that fits a 512 lot with some room to spare, obviously a newbie targeted home. But I am working on others that are larger, more spacious, though currently working on my "Drag and Drop" one piece linked homes to get the ball rolling and keep it going with the roll out of larger more extravagant homes. My main goal will be to keep them as prim efficient as possible, and still look good. Even have plans for an office building. What style(s) of homes do you prefer? Do you prefer stairs or teleporters? How do you feel about sculpted accents? Do you prefer Mod permissions? (As of this point I will be offering them as Copy/No Transfer) Any other suggestion you may have, preferences, things you may have been looking at in a house or building you have not seen yet? Obviously this is just a starting point and I do not expect suggestions here to be representative of all SL, been around to long for that delusion, but it will give me a basis of what others NOT me like. Thanks in advance.

What style(s) of homes do you prefer? Japanese, Victorian, Cape Cod type (with a "Widow's Walk" balcony) *Do you prefer stairs or teleporters? I am actually the rare person that enjoys seeing and using stairs in SL - especially spiral stairs, although they can get a bit prim-heavy. In our home, we have both spiral stairs and teleporters and I use both, depending on the situation and my mood. *How do you feel about sculpted accents? Not sure what type of accents you mean. Back to the stairs - I learned how to make a regular staircase using a sculptie and really liked the way it turned out. *Do you prefer Mod permissions? (As of this point I will be offering them as Copy/No Transfer) Definitely! Plus, something the designer did for the house we have is put all the textures (with appropriate permissions) for the house with the package. We have used that innumerable times when either I've accidentally messed up a wall or to make a window solid, etc. *Any other suggestion you may have, preferences, things you may have been looking at in a house or building you have not seen yet? I've seen some houses that are well done, but the rooms and space are done too small so moving about in them is a nightmare with the camera angles. I never understood when I first came to SL why some houses were so seemingly oversized, but now I understand. The house doesn't have to be huge, but avoiding the small, cramped, hard-to-move-with-camera types would be good. *Thanks in advance. Your welcome

If I were ever to want an SL Home again, the one I have in storage is exactly what I like.
Single level, updated ranch, with lots of windows, and a huge wraparound deck. 2 0r 3 rooms at the most, none of which have to be a kitchen or bathroom. Definitely Copy, as I have a habit of deleting parts of it while decorating. I'm not sure what sculptie accents would mean. If it were a multi story house, the size would determine whether stairs or TP would be desired. If there is room, I prefer stairs, but sometimes in smaller houses a staircase takes too much space. I don't like spiral staircases.

My house, built by Isablan. It's specifically designed to exist on a VERY steep mountain hillside.

From: Brenda Connolly Wow! Far out, Man! Does that rock or what? My specifications, for the OP were: No kitchen, no bathroom, minimal prims (it's only a 1120 sq meters parcel.) I said something like "in between Frank Lloyd Wright and Lothlorian from Lord of the Rings."

I'll add that my second favorites would be a sort of Modern/Art Deco hybrid.

From: someone What style(s) of homes do you prefer? I like most styles, but I like having plenty of windows so I don't feel closed in, and I like to be able to cam around the room easily. Open plan is good, and it has to be light. I love the modern/comtemporary feel- I've done this with a retro twist. From: someone Do you prefer stairs or teleporters? Personally I love having stairs/slopes if the prims can afford it. I like to put a TP in there too, but I'm willing to put it in there myself if need be. I really do like the option of taking the time to walk though. From: someone How do you feel about sculpted accents? I like sculpties, but they rez fast for me - I have a good PC and connection. Some have problems with sculpties not rezzing, so be careful how much of them you put in there. From: someone Do you prefer Mod permissions? (As of this point I will be offering them as Copy/No Transfer) Yes, Copy/Mod/no Trans is definitely what I would want. As low prims as possible, but high quality, and i don't like it to take over the lot...there has to be a bit of space for me to have an outdoor area. PS Oryx: That house rocks!

PS Oryx: That house rocks! Have to agree that I to hate it when a house takes up the whole lot, or shows gaps or seems when it does not have to (At times it is impossible to do.), and most defiantly HATE texture clipping and conflicts. See these in homes some times. Little things drive me nuts.

One word....Dominion. Go check their stuff. When I set up my residential sim, 80% of the houses were by Dominion. I love the textures, colors, designs. The only thing I DIDN'T love was his doors. After I set up the houses, I had to go back and set up the doors. They "installed" about 3 feet low. In some houses, he decided not to deal with it and just sent the interior doors in the box.

My tastes are eclectic to say the least. I'd recommend building whatever you like. The artist's job is to show us what we should like -- or what we like and just don't know it yet. I will say that I'm a bit weary of dark woods and wood textures that are too reddish or orange in hue. I see that a lot. Don't know if it's windlight or if people just think wood is orange. I'd be interested in seeing some odd building material textures in subtle hues. I like the idea of mod and copy if only so I can tweak the wall or carpet color a little. So for my houses, all two and a half of them, I'm making them mod, copy, no transfer. I like the look of staircases but find the spiral ones a little tedious to navigate. I'm fine with just a TP pad. I usually include a small windowless room with a posing stand as a dressing room which is my prime reason for building a house. Before people say it -- yes, I know you can change clothes without taking them off, but I don't. Please stop trying to make me. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Although I've made about half my houses I enjoy other people's ideas more. That is where the magic lies.

Teleporters! It can be hard for those of us with short stubby legs to navigate steps sometimes. Sculpted accents are nice as long as there's not too many - otherwise it'll look too blobby while rezzing. Copy/Mod/No transfer is good - it's nice to customize, but still be able to retrieve a copy of the original when I mess up! I like big open rooms with windows too - makes it easier to cam around and not get stuck in a wall. Bathrooms are totally unnecessary.

All I can say if I was renting again and couldn't just build whatever I wanted there my requirements would be don't make the ceilings so low and walls so close together that I feel like they are closing in on me and the houses so close I can accidentally see what my neighbors are doing whenever I move camera certain way.

The basic idea is to have all Residential flat ceilings be 5 meters, Commercial flat ceilings be 5.5 to 6 meters. Use the builders tape measure freebie as a guide but I don't like how low it sets the ceiling, feels like my camera is a fly on the ceiling so I set them higher.
