Ok I am getting note cards now non stop from Mall owners or people working for malls.
Prices very greatly. What I want to know is it getting that hard to rent shops? And what is a fair price for mall space. Im seeing some as high as 12L a prim. I figure any thing over 5L is to high.

Are you actually looking for space?

I have 2 store locations. At one, I'm paying $4/prim and at the other, I'm paying $3.07/prim until December when it goes to $4.60/prim.

I saw a place last night that was $8/prim for 25 prims...no thanks! I have to agree with you, anything over $5 is too much!

I have mine set up at 2L per prim, and no one renting

ppl want traffic before they rent, and ppl will not come unless there is renters

vicious cycle

I rent a little shop at Cascadia Plaza (hope I'm allowed to name that) and I pay L$225/Weed for 120 prims....so, a little under L$2/Prim. I think it's a nice little place, too. Not a stacked up inside mall, but a quaint little village square almost, with little shops of different sizes around. Um, but I guess that didn't really answer the question did it?

There are a few variables to consider.

Are your products prim heavy? if so, then you need to consider spaces that offer more prims for less Linden dollars. Are you able to sell as many products with pictures? I have found my products sell better when they are displayed rather than displayed as pictures on a box.

3L per prim per week is reasonable, anything more really depends on the traffic, location of the store, and how many prims you need to rent. There are places available for 6L per prim per week that are well worth it because the products sell well.

You should display your product close to the target market. Selling your product in themed areas will do much better for you than selling in a general area. With that said, the general type malls do well for your business because it brings recognition to the brand. Sometimes people may not even know your product exists until they bump into you at a mall.

Personally, I try to stick close to 200L for a store per week. Its a good amount that usually only requires a couple sales a week to break even.

Good Luck!

not in game at the moment, but I will drop the lm when I am in

the mall is set up in the movix sim which I built as a city.

I had it as an office for awhile, but liked the idea of making it a mall instead, every city needs a mall right? heh

also have stores in the city that can be rented for 2L per prim (no rental boxes, but if someone wanted to rent a store, I would put out a box for them)

My partner and I have just increased the number of shops on our estate and we're already nearly full up again. We run at 250L for 50 prims. We run weekly music events and Fatima has a highly popular housewares store so we do get a lot of traffic.

Without that traffic, I'd have thought 3 - 3.5 L per prim about the max one could charge; less than that starts to become uneconomic for the land owner, more than that and one's vendors will be forever moving on.

Prims per L$ aren't everything. Some places offer you a good prim per L$ but not enough space to utilise them all.

I think I have space enough to use them

The building being used for the mall is the one skimi made, very nice very large :)

(need to set up a TP system to the upper levels, maybe a board with textures of whoever rents there)
not textures of the people LOL textures of their store name or logo

anywho logging in now, lms coming to those who requested, feel free to peek around the sim too, and if interested in renting a store within the city, just give me a shout on that

Im paying 1L/week because my landlord is great and is not charging much until the traffic justifies it. I got sick of paying high rent in laggy malls etc run by sharks with long lists of shitty rules who boot you out with no notice or refunds at the drop of a hat. Theyre full of newbs that dont have money to spend anyway and the only reason they are there is to make 10L an hour camping.
I make more from the shops on my own land than any of the rentals Ive had and I can do whatever i like, its fab.

I work at a men's mall (Devilfish) we've just expanded have a two stores left.

600 a week for 150 prims which I don't personally think is too expensive considering the traffic we get is total shoppers no campers, zombies, alts in the sky etc.. the mall is staffed newbies taken through the mall go from ugly to stud via the stores. We have a large group we post new products to and regularly run promo events.

We approach the vendors that we know will sell at the mall and try to keep the quality high...but many turn us down because we don't boast a 50K traffic in the search engine... (the mall unfortunately is split over many small parcels which we can't join) I would have thought sales over visitors and search stats would be more important to a shop owner but I guess I don't own a store myself...maybe there's something I'm missing lol.

From running the mall it's easy to see how quickly store owners come and go, some get caught up in real life, some get annoyed with SL's bugs and quit, some just pack in to retire to play the game instead of working... So you've got to be on the ball looking for new stores and products all the time... If you leave the boxes available and open, you get all kinds of re-sellers and dodgy folk renting your stores...Urgh.

It's not hard to rent shops out to people...But it can be tricky to maintain quality...

Heck we can't GIVE them away! :-)

We run an asian-style market and have been looking for designers of high-quality asian clothing and similar. We've been offering stores for free, and haven't got any response. OK, so our traffic isn't high, but it *is* very focused - we only get people coming who are interested in high-end asian goods. What we currently sell is complimentary to that - asian furnishings, antiques and artwork. We want a nice broad range of goods in a very stylish place for people to come and hang out. Since then we've been forced to change our plan somewhat.

What totally amazes me is that the people we have contacted haven't even bothered to reply to our notecards! Presumably it's too much trouble to set up a free store somewhere, which just boggles my mind....

I am seeing quite a few people giving store space away for free right now - which I am sure therefore brings down the number of people who would pay for rental space...

Seen from the other end, you get quite a few spam IMs and notecards about "new low lag, high traffic mall", and more often than not, it's either randomly spammed out, the build is some cubes thrown together with a couple of default textures, or both.
If you truly have scouted out a merchant for a themed mall, make sure that it is absolutely clear that you are contacting that *one* merchant because of his/her wares, including a specific reference and reason why it fits your mall. *Any* hint at standard phrasing or bulk mail will get you immediately discarded and ignored. On the other hand, if it is clear that you have taken the time to actually consider that one person's shop, I think many (most?) merchants would be flattered instead of annoyed.

Tali, believe me it was far from a generic notecard. I was very specific about how the goods fit with our concept. I have bought quite a few items there and told them that (something they could check back in their logs for).

I don't know whether I annoyed them or not - I hope not. I just never heard back.

So just use one prim. It's not like a multi-vender needs more...
