Hi all, since the new server is up, I do have mighty problems in Textures and Sculpty Stuff.
Any time I TP into a new Region, it takes ages until the textures get rezzed. sooooooo....
I am asking, what the hell is going on? Is it only me, or do you have same problems?
Its not really fun to look for stuff, if things take so long to rez the textures.....
WHAT can I do? Any Ideas?
- got Vista - got Quatro - got 500 mb graphic - got 4 GB Ram
Please help me as the Customer Support seems to be off for coffee break..... like usual.
Thanks to all

Play with your graphics setting in the SL Preferences - especially make sure your draw distance is not too high. You could also try one of the alternate viewers rather than the latest LL official one: Snowglobe (a new one put out by LL): https://secure-web13.secondlife.com/my/support/downloads/ (listed under Test Viewers, to the right) A variety of third party options: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Alternate_viewers#Third-party_ViewersEven with an alternate viewer, it seems to me that there is more lag and longer texture loading since the latest server rollout. They probably call it progress.

Texture loading is a question of bandwidth too. You might have the snazziest gaming rig in the world, but if the bandwidth is low, textures will load slowly. In fact, a high-end PC might tempt one to push the draw distance up, increasing the number of textures in view and making them load even slower. As one review put it, it's like the machine is sucking a wheelbarrow full of porridge through a straw.

I've been just annihilated with slow texture and object loading over the last two days. It was utterly maddening. Then I realized that I had maxed out my draw distance because of some pictures I was taking and forgot to set it back. Oops.
Could be something simple.

Also check to see what else is running on the computer in background - and as mentioned, check your bandwidth. Try something like this site to see what you are really getting, regardless of what your ISP says you should be getting: http://www.speedtest.net/

If I'm not mistaken, server version 1.30 allows texture transfer via HTTP rather than UDP. This may work out to be much faster. However, you have to specifically enable it in debug settings.
If you do not see an "Advanced" menu on your top menubar, then press CTRL-ALT-D to enable it.
In the Advanced menu, select "Debug Settings". In the debug settings window, type in "ImagePipelineUseHTTP", then select "TRUE".

That speedtest site clocked it at between 1.5 and 3, depending on the time of day. I changed to a new provider, same 8MB offered, same exchange, same wires. I now get 3.6-6.5MB. Althought the first thing I'd suspect is a poor network connection, see if clearing the cache helps. (In SL, edit > Preferences > Network, clear cache and restart SL). From: Randolf Baxton got Quatro What's this?

me to... vista is the goal

Hi there out there in the SL World
IF YOU HAVE VISTA.....
I played around with the graphics.
1. Vista has a lot of nice little things that need a lot of power, so I pointed them all down to BEST POWER.... LESS QUALITY, and BINGO it all was better and textures in SL work fine now.
Hey guys... really thanks to you all for the great help, and yes some hints are really missing in the SL help files.
Oh by the way QUATRO is 2 x double Core from Intel.
Have a great Weekend
Yours Randolf

Also under the advanced menu, enable "Run Multiple Threads" in the Rendering section.

From: Kara Spengler Last I heard it only worked for maps though. Yes that's what I thought too. We've had the ability to enable transfer texture transfer via HTTP in the last couple of versions of Snowglobe and the RC viewers, but I as far as I'm aware, they haven't flipped the switched yet for everything so it doesn't actually work. The release notes for the 1.30 server are sparse at best but do you happen to remember where you might have read this Katheryne?

Though, knowing LL, they'll probably still only barely mention it in release notes when it finally does become fully enabled.

Oh Lil, I think you were having the problem of opening textures from your inventory and not having them load. I also think you might be a Snowglobe user and it seems like they have fixed it in the latest version of SG which has a worn tab and also some nifty auto-translation functions you can enable in the text chat portion of preferences. That's OK, when it all works completely you'll know because I'll be posting instructions on how to make it go through a web proxy so you can have hundreds of gigabytes of local cache.

Actually I am using Emerald and the textures that would not load for 3 freakin days (4 or 5 of them) finally all loaded/rezzed properly yesterday. They never showed as missing, they just never rezzed, either inworld on the object or when trying to look at them in inventory. It was mighty strange, but seems all resolved now -- and I luckily did not have to clear cache to get it fixed.

In the SLDEV list there's a series of messages about a patch to snowglobe that broke texture loading, and it may be actually revealing something like a file descriptor leak in texture handling. They're looking into it now.

From: Randolf Baxton Hi all, since the new server is up, I do have mighty problems in Textures and Sculpty Stuff.
Any time I TP into a new Region, it takes ages until the textures get rezzed. sooooooo....
Randolf I see the same happening since a few days/weeks. I'm on an iMac, OSX 10.5 Leopard, 4GB, Nvidia 8800 GS graphics card. Having nothing changed on my system for a few months my texture and sculpties loading has gotten extremely slow lately, up to the point that I don't see anything in a shop for minutes. What I'm seeing is that the loading of textures is not only slow: it comes to a total halt at some point, no data is loaded at all. When I then alt-click one or a few of the grey prims some textures are loaded, but then the process comes to a halt again. The only thing that has changed is the new server version...
