How do I take my own photograph to then put into my profile?

Hi Victor,

First off....familiarize yourself with the camera controls.......the easiest way to get a self portrait is to put your avatar in a sitting or standing position.....then......center your mouse on your avatar.....hold down the 'alt' key and use your arrow keys to pan around.....up & down will zoom in and out. Once you get an angle you like.....go to your bottom menu and take a snapshot.

When you take a snapshot....you have the option to either save it in-world (this will upload the image as a snapshot) or.....you can save it to your hardrive for editing (if you're into photoshop or similar programs, this can be fun). If you do save a snapshoot to your hard drive....you can later upload it....it will show in inventory as a 'texture'.

Once you have a snapshot you're happy with....simply open your profile....then drag the snapshot from your inventory into the gray area in your profile where a picture should be. Make sure you press 'ok' before closing your profiel, so it saves the image.


Also....when ever you save a snapshot in-world...it costs 10L. If you save to hard drive.....you'll be charges 10L when/if you uplaod the image into SL later.

Note that there are three aspect ratios used in Profile pictures.

The 2nd Life tab (front page) uses 4:3
The Picks tab uses a square format
The First Life tab (back page) uses widescreen 16:9.

Either take your snapshot with the appropriate custom sizing, or if you upload to your hard drive, crop the appropriate aspect ratio when you're editing it.

I find it easier to use a program like screenhunter and take the exact shot i want right off the screen,upload it to textures then drag it onto the profile pic area
