i just got in second life...am quite excited but the thing is that all the buttons and everything on the screen while surfing through secondlife is in japanese..how can i change the language to english..pls help me out

when you installed the client, did you choose English as your default language? If not, try reinstalling it.

CTRL-P (CMD-P on the Mac) brings up the preferences menu. In the top tab on hte left side is "General", that's where you set the language. The last drop-down menu in that section will do it.

thnk u guys for the reply..really appreciate...although i uninstalled it ten times but still the language on the main frame ( the buttons and the options) are in japanese...sorry but if u could help me out with it..will be great.....not using mac though...windows!!!

When you are inworld, go to edit-preferences-general tab, on the bottom of that tab is the option to select language

Had to comment the other comments...

This is a smart reply! Tells you witch options to choose (even though you don't understand the language on the buttons!) THIS is what to do! When you are inworld, go to edit-preferences-general tab, on the bottom of that tab is the option to select language ...Sorry Ashe - don't mean to make fun of you. I'm a nice person but this made me laugh soo much! Since the problem is that the buttons wont read 'edit' 'preference' 'general' 'language'... More like '%' '#' '$' '&' or something...   These will be in the same locations, regardless of language. Make sure you click the OK button on the bottom, which is the third one in from either direction, then close and reopen the viewer. _____________________
