Well just when you don't need something to happen, it happens. I do photography in SL and was hired along with my partner to shoot a wedding last night. Previously, I had an XP computer but it died and I purchased a new one, sadly with Vista.
I never thought to check my camera until about 1 hour before the wedding, and it seems that everytime I snapped a picture to save to disc, I crashed. If I chose to upload (which is at a much lower resolution), it worked fine. But even if I set the resolution to very small and saved to disc, I crashed.
I went into Admin and toggled the Hi-Res Snapshots, but the same problem occured.
I updated my NVidia 7600 GS video card to the latest Vista driver and the same problem continued. In general, SL has been running great with the card installed, even before I upodated the driver.
I have a laptop, which has very little memory but also runs on Vista, and while I move like a snail, it didn't have any problems taking a pic.
I am guessing it is either some SL setting I am missing or something with the graphics card. I searched the forums and there was nothing recent about this. Any thoughts as to what it is?

I know that there was a bug related to picture-taking - you might wish to try downloading the latest Release Candidate client.

I would not blame LL for this...Vista is a beta OS. Try with Windows XP or Linux. Snapshots work perfectly there.

Snapshots work perfectly well on Vista too. I save all of mine to disk at a minimum 3000 x 2000 pixels, and that whole process has given me no bother whatsoever.

I have Vista also...take pics both to disc and via the inworld upload...no problems either way...did you upgrade your graphics card when you got the new OS?

The computer came with NVidia onboard graphics but movement and graphic quality was not very good. So I installed the graphic card from my other computer, the NVidia 7600GS. Since it has 512MB memory on board, it works so much better. And my movement and the graphics quality is the same for me in Vista as it was in XP.
As I mentioned, I can take pics in Vista on my laptop and save them to disc. I guess what I can do is remove the NVidia 7600GS and revert to the onboard graphics and see if that crashes too. If it does, we can rule out the NVidia I added.
I tried every setting I can think of, reset to defaults, downloaded the release candidate, and I still have the same problems. I am also not a premium member, so I can't submit a tech ticket for this.
Sighs!!!

Well, an update. I removed the NVidia 7600 GS and let the onboard video do the work. Logged back to SL and crashed again when I tried to take a snapshot. And I noticed something else. Even if I try and save a texture to disk, I crash. So there is something about SL writing to the disk that is throwing it off. I can work in photoshop and save pictures, and I can download files or transfer files. I DJ'ed yesterday and all that worked fine, so I am back to square one.
What we do know is that Vista and SL are happy together on my laptop (though I am not happy since it take forever for things to rezz on that and I can barely walk), but I can take pictures. So it has to be something on my desktop system or maybe the Vista version that is just not comfortable with SL. The laptop is Vista Home Premium but no service pack, an AMD processor, 32bit, 1.6ghz with 1982 MB ram (video is onboard on that). My desktop is Vista Home Premium SP1, 32 bit with a pentium dual core 1.8Ghz processor, and 3gb ram.

***UPDATE*** Well now it is worse I decided to reinstall Vista without all the extras that came pre-installed. I thought maybe that was interfering. After I installed Vista, I only installed Second Life. Tried to take a picture and crashed. Now I even crash when i try to upload. I am wondering if there is something with the permissions in Vista and the UAC that is not communicating well with Second Life. It just seems odd that any disk access seems to cause the crash, either reading or writing. But I can't let it stay like this. If I can't upload, it would be awful!

From: Dmitriy Gausman Tried to take a picture and crashed. Now I even crash when i try to upload. yup yup i've been having this exact problem for the last TWO updates. i have changed nothing, so i know it is SL and the way SL interacts with my computer.
