Hi everyone:)

I don't know if anyone can help me but I'm about to pull my hair out because I can't figure this out.

My problem is that I cannot view ascii characters in game. Like ya know when you see little hearts, music notes, etc? It just looks like a little blob to me. Everyone around me can see it but I cannot.

I did do a test and when I saw something in game that should be ascii, what I did was copied and pasted it into notepad on my desktop...one was music notes with alternating stars. On notepad I saw the music notes and thats it. So I tried another experiment and tried pasting it into just the plain google search bar...then I saw it perfectly. I cannottt figure out what setting isnt right on my computer!

Does anyone else have this problem or is there any computer genious' out there that might be able to suggest anything I could try?

Thanks so much ahead of time!

Angelina, figure out how you can't see it and sell it. I would love not to see guitars and wolves flash across the chat taking up 20 plus lines. I mute more inconsiderate people because of it.

I think you might be refering to the ascii codes to make them. this url is from another thread. see if this is what you are looking for.

Yes Damien that is exactly what I mean:) I see the star, the music note, the heart, etc, when I go to the link you gave me. Yet, in game I cannot view them, they just look like ..well, blobs lol. Any ideas on why it would do that?

When you Copy-Paste, are you using Ctrl-C,X,V or using the menu? Can you see when others use them, just not when you do?

Are you using the alt codes to enter them into your text or copy-paste? If copy-paste, use the alt codes instead.

Funny though….i can get ™ (alt-0153) to work just fine in my profile. Go figure

I can't see them correctly whether I do the code myself or if someone else does the code. If it's an ascii, no matter who displays it, I cant see it correctly. It's just killing me because it's probobly the DUMBEST thing ever and the slightest adjustment with something on my computer but I can't figure it out haha

Edit: I took screenshots so you could see what Im talking about...

This is what I see in game....

yet when I take the exact line and copy and paste it into the google search bar..I see this..

Angelina,

You are most likely missing a font type on your computer called Arial Unicode.

To install it you'll need your Microsoft Word or Microsoft Works disk that came with your computer. This is the directions on how to do that from the Microsoft website.

a. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.NOTE: In Microsoft Windows XP, click Start and then click Control Panel.

b. In Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs.
c. Do one of the following.
• In Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0:

On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Office XP (or Microsoft Word 2002), and then click Add/Remove. -or-

• In Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP:

Click Change or Remove Programs, click Microsoft Office XP (or Microsoft Word 2002), and then click Change.
d. In the Features to install window, click Next.
e. Click to expand Office Shared Features.
f. Click to expand International Support.
g. Click the icon next to Universal Font, and then click Run all from My computer on the shortcut menu.
h. Click Update to complete the installation of the Universal Font (Arial Unicode MS) to your computer.

Good Luck!!
