Just when I thought I had the whole permissions thing sorted out in my head...
OK, now these are for 100 points each:
Q1 I have a prim and I set it to Transfer only, no-mod, no-copy In that prim I have a script, and that is set to Copy only, no-mod, no-transfer The texture on the prim is set to Mod only, no-copy, no-trans
I then set the prim for sale at L$100
Up comes Newbie Green and tries to buy it:
a) He can, but the script doesn't work b) He can, but the texture is plywood c) He can, and everything is OK d) He can't buy it e) None of the above
Q2 I make a prim and set it to Transfer only I make a second prim and set it to Mod and Copy but Non-trans I then link the two prims
a) The combined set is Trans b) The combined set is Non-trans c) You cannot link them if the Trans permissions are different d) The sim crashes e) None of the above
???

e) The texture cannot be set to "mod only, no copy, no trans" because that is an illegal combination. You must grant either Copy or Transfer. However, with regard to the script question: Scripts always run as if they had Modify permission on the object they are in. From: someone Q2 I make a prim and set it to Transfer only I make a second prim and set it to Mod and Copy but Non-trans I then link the two prims
a) The combined set is Trans b) The combined set is Non-trans c) You cannot link them if the Trans permissions are different d) The sim crashes e) None of the above
e), the root prim determines which permissions the combined object gets, so it depends in which order you linked them. Um, I think.

As he travels, people ask him "wow, where did you get that cube head av?!" Newbie Green decides to capitalize on a new budding fad and makes millions. From: Rock Ryder

Unless you're a minister or a Judge you can't legally join two prims. If you are, they skip off into the sunset and live happily ever after. If you aren't, they find out down the road that the union was never valid, have nervous breakdowns, cause a grid crash, and sue you for therapy costs.

at least one serious reply before the silliness started now I am curious about the answer though, just how does it work with different perms (and even though your answers were cute deandra I still have yet to figure out why folks post those non answer, answers (is it to show off their "wit" or their "humor" rhetorical, please do not answer the above comment thanks much

When it is purchased, in inventory it would show as nm/nc/nt. When rezzed, the prim would show as nm/nc. If it was mod, the script could be copied out of it and put in other things btw! But as a nm object I believe it could only be deleted? Also, were the prim mod, in inventory it couldn't be renamed, because it would appear no mod because of the script, but we could rename it via edit in world when rezzed. As for the other question, that's a trick question! The correct answer is the sim crashes, since that happens regardless! So is it also 270 points per L$? I'd like my Linden now please!

I'm assuming in all situations we're dealing with full perms objects for current owner and the setting of perms for 'next owner'. Dealing with limited perms object for current owner icw setting permissions for next owner is a whole different ballgame Q1: Objects bought/taken to inventory revert to the set of 'least perms' of the object and the items in it's contents. applied textures aren't calculated in, when 'least perms' are concerned, except when they're also available as items in the contents of the object. So the object will show up as nm/nc/nt in inventory for the purchaser. When rezzed, it reverts back to the original permissions set for next owner for every individual element. So answer C. Depending on what your intentions are. (Or e: as the question is wrong, as textures on prims have no perms, and an atomic asset can't have combined no-copy/no-transfer perms.) Q2: It all depends on which prim was selected last when linking. The main permissions of an object are based on the root prim. So answer: a or b, depending on last selected prim. Child prims have no permissions by themselves, but their contents is taken into account when calculating the total 'least permission' set shown in inventory. when an object is transferred ownership. Causing the feared: hunt for the one item in the contents of a multi prim set contents that 'messes' up the permissions...

Deandra's been taking Trout Pills! As a professional teacher, I say that the answers to these questions are best left as an exercise for the student (which is how we professional teachers say "I have no idea whatsoever".) Why not try it, just you and your alt? Let us know how it comes out.

heyas;
if the perms on textures on the object have no bearing whatsoever on perms of the object....
why is it that when my partner gave me a set of objects that had her custom uploaded texture on them, which were set to no copy/no mod.... and the objects (and script inside) were set to full perms.... (you following?) and they came to me in my inventory as full perm.... once i rezzed them in world, i couldn't copy the bleeders for NOTHING. !?!?
is what i want to know!
i sent them back to her (the full perm ones in my inventory... that were copyable as you'll recall. the ones that became no copy were copies of the inventory ones....) and SHE couldn't copy them.
so i told her: i told you the dangers of making textures non-full-perms. and so she went and changed all her new texture to full perms, and re-textured everything with these re-permed textures and gave me full-perm objects once again.
now yesterday, i went to copy one of these full-perm items with full-perm textures on them.... and, ha-ha, i couldn't. i dont have permission to copy it, apparently.
WHY???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
btw, to help with permissions, there's a debug setting you can turn on. under the client menu, its... 'debug permissions.' (use ctrl-alt-d to turn on the client/server debug menus.)
this will give you an extra line in the object/properties palettes showing codes for permissions. its sorta like a preview of what the next owner will see. (i still thing handing it to an alt is the only way to be 100% sure, though.)
debug permission codes
B: base (builder?) O: owner (current) N: next G: group A: all F: final or folded-together
V move M modify C copy T transfer
oddly enough, in the above mysterious no-copy scenario, the base permisions were VMT -- note the lack of C. shouldnt base permissions ALWAYS be VMCT? how does someone create something they can't copy?

The notrans script in Q1 prevents purchase, so D is the correct answer. The person cannot buy it, or E - which would be that you couldn't set the object for sale to begin with.
As for Q2, that probably depends which prim is the root prim.

e), the root prim determines which permissions the combined object gets, so it depends in which order you linked them. Um, I think. Does that mean if I have a bought object that is No Copy, No trans, but is Mod, I simply rezz a cube, with full perms, link it to the bought object, linking my cube last, making it the root prim, and hey-presto the combined primset is now full perms? ??

That sounds like the perms weren't "baked", but changed on the items in inventory rather than in world. IE, in the perms debug there would have been an * If perms are changed in inventory (to the filename, since the object doesn't exist then), nothing happens but a note saying to the system "set the perms to this when it's rezzed". Pass the object to someone else and the perms seem to magically change when they rez it (but they can pass on the unbaked version). I learned to never set perms on prims unless you are doing it in world! Many of the freebies I first got when I were new were like this, apparently from people who never learned to set perms on the rezzed item (or alternatively, set perms in inventory, rez item, take new item with baked perms, delete original from inventory).

Just tried Q1 in-world. My alt (who is not a member of any of my groups, and has no object permissions, etc.) was able to successfully purchase the item. Once rezzed in-world, the texture showed up fine, the script worked fine. In inventory, the object showed as No Mod/No Copy/No Trans. The script showed as No Mod/No Copy.
The prim's perms were set in the Edit Window as opposed to the perm settings available in the inventory window, btw.
