Hello, I was wondering if my forum friends could give me some help. We are looking to find some background music for our sim. We want something either traditional East Asian or a new-age type asian.

If you want an example of the former, I'm thinking along the lines of the stuff that plays at Silk Waters Mountain on Orelle, although I don't think that is a stream.

I have searched the internet looking for streams, but struggle because I don't read the language and end up listening to endless talk radio

Could anyone please help?

I try to find talk radio stations to listen to while I am working and cannot figure out how to get those urls to work in SL. Mind sharing those addys? lol

why not have a look at their stream url?
i dont remember the combination, but there is a ctrl+blah sequence that unmasks the media url.

to unmask someone else's stream on the land, you hit 'view admin options' from the client menu, then when you hit about land the media tab will NOT be XXX'ed out

well, another stream, thasts a pretty decenty, they do have profaNity but its all pwoerd by listener requests, and that is called Radio Fox

See if these are anything like what you're looking for - I'm not 100% familiar with what you are trying to achieve.

Simply paste the whole sequence of numbers etc into the Media music tab on About Land as already listed. Don't worry about my note as to what it is

http://24.251.175.173:8000 (Bangladesh)
http://66.78.244.195:6464 (Bhangra music)
http://207.200.96.227:8060 (Traditional Persian)
http://213.251.176.52:9000 (Kurdish Radio)

Everything else I could find was rather too ... modern

This is what I do - Shoutcast/Winamp combination.

www.shoutcast.com, search and listen to the streams you think fit.

When you find one, go to Winamp and ALT 3 brings up the stream address. Simply copy that full address and paste into SL's media tab, and it should play. It'll only use MP3 steams, not AAC+ streams, and be careful of the bandwidth. 24k streams don't sound that different to 128k streams, but use 1/5 of the bandwidth on your SL client. Also be aware of maxing out a stream; some streams only allow 30 connections and on a full sim all your guests won't be able to listen in. Remembering you're freeloading anyway, it's probably better to go for streams that allow over 100 connections (to give space for other listeners) and pick a higher bandwidth if necessary to achieve that.
