If you buy mainland you have to be a premium member. Mainland is land you buy directly from Linden Lab.

If you buy (rent is a more accurate term) land from a private estate owner you do not have to be a premium.

For the rest of your questions, someone that can give you a better answer will be along shortly I'm sure.

Good luck!

Just go to search/land sales and check 'mature only' when you search.

You should also read the new rules about mature content. Depending on what your club offers, you might have to buy land in Zindra instead. Zindra land is not for sale to the general public yet. People are still exchanging their old mainland parcels for adult land. They had to already have mature/adult content on view to the public, to qualify. Once all of the exchanges are done, unused Zindra land will begin to go on auction most likely.

What some landowners call "buying" from them, "no premium membership necessary," is actually leasing and it comes with a covenant. You would be in business with a stranger, basically. Be careful.

If you do decide to buy/lease from a private landowner, it's wise to do a bit of research before investing your money. There are many good, trustworthy landowners out there but also a few bad ones as well. Also, LL won't help you out if you find yourself in a dispute with a bad one.

actually you buy the land from other residents, and pay tier to linden lab, and yes to buy land on mainland you need to be premium

If you look at about land, the estate will be mainland, estate owners is gov linden

Oh do I know this one.

I am still waiting on a $40 USD refund. I paid that for a month's "ownership" i.e. lease on a house I used to have - and a day or so later the whole sim sold. The former owner disappeared.

I am pretty sure I spoke with his alt. Of course no way to be sure, and I'm sure it's total coincidence they do all the same hobbies and use the same phrases. Somehow the person knew things about the owner, the sale, etc., and would "try to" pass along my messages/concerns.

I note carded the former owner, and I tried to offer a reasonable alternative to refunding my cash: a barter. The former landowner had or has, a shop that sells all sorts of things. I was willing to settle for some goods - anything would've been better than just being ignored. After months of "ownership" i.e. leasing I never got a dime back or even a courtesy reply. Apparently the land had been up for sale for a couple weeks or more; none of us were told. The former owner just kept taking in the payments for "ownership" (which is why I gag when someone says it's land ownership; not unless you pay tier to LL it isn't) despite the pending sim sale.

Live and learn.

I think this is something that Linden should make much clearer to all residents. That estate is only a form of renting and that by selling it as ownership it is a form of dishonesty, and many people really believe they own that land.
