I am looking for a new skin and I have so much trouble deciding what to buy. Am I the only one who hesitate, waiting to see if the "right" skin is released soon? There's a new pretty skin released every week lately! I know I have a weakness for using a bigger amount of money. I am "the" fool who buys too much on sale because it's so cheap. I think back on the ETD sale and blush.... my ETD hair folder is bursting. And I think I only used 3-5 of those "cheap hairs". If I count all that I bought, I certainly could have bought one or two expensive skins for all that hair.... I would have bought the Curio skins, if not the body were so shiny. I like a detailed body, but some of those shades were too dark and the sundust tone was just too pink. Actually, I like Redgrave's skins a lot... but "everybody" has Redgrave. I bought a PXL skin, but I only liked the dark new skins, and I am looking for a light tanned skin now... I've used Tuli skins a lot, but I didn't like her newest release. I can buy older skins from her, but I want some new... I could go on and on like this, with at last 5 more designers. I think I have too much to chose from! And there's always "previews" of new skins that makes me wait... I demo the skin when it finally comes, and think this is perfect... if just that was a bit different... I wait a new week...

ARSNOVA has some really beautiful skins......and I've also found that Detour skins are quite nice. Another fave is Celestial Studios (near Canimal). Pulse has also got some great ones....in fact there's a huge sale going on right now. I am a skin whore too.....I am always looking for new designers.....I just get so enthralled with the detail and work put into making them (which I cannot do cause I have zero patience for it) so.....I am always always keeping an eye out for the next new, beautiful skin. There is another place too....but I forgot the name......If you want, shoot me an IM some time and I will pass over LM's and any names I've forgotten.

Marianne, someone who is doing skins that I've been keeping an eye on is Candy over at A Piece of Candy. Her latest round of skins are pretty nice. Emporio Caproni is another one who has some really nice skins. Check my classifieds

I used Celestial Studios skins for the longest time. Recently, I switched to an assortment of Belleza skins...similar in detail to Redgrave, but not quite as shiny in the highlights.
The only thing I don't like about them, I didn't notice until after I'd bought them...there's streaking on the buttocks/backs of the inner thighs.
I still think they were a worthwhile change, though.

I've noticed the streaking in Redgrave, too. (Redgrave Jennifer atm on my av)
I like the more painted-looking skins although I also like Redgrave's photorealism and attention to facial detail. The eye makeup on the 'painted' skins is often stunning, though...
Redgrave is forgiving of imperfections and seems to soften out the polygon look in the facial area of an avatar. I make my own shapes so that comes in handy...I'm curious to buy some of the ready-made skin/shape pairs, though. There are some good 'avatar artists' out there.

I am using the original Chai skins. I am not a fan of the double shot, because the shading is a little too heavy for my taste. They are now 250L apiece, and have a large assortment of makeups. I'm still on the hunt for a good light golden brown skin that isn't too orange and isn't dull-looking.

/me seconds Launa Fauna's Chai skins. Go to any skin tone corridor from the landing point, then straight down the end and the next door takes you to the discount area. They are very good but there are a lot of very good ones about.
Surprisingly, some of the freebies put up some stiff competition though. I've tried PixelDeep, Pulse, Adam'n'Eve, Panjen, Emporio but my Inigo always goes back to her freebie MU Designs Dany from Milky9.
Is ETD open again yet?

I could have written this post. I have dozens of skins that I bought with high hopes, wore for a week and then went back to my "better than freebie" skin. Either the lips are all wrong, or the nose is too s shiny, or the nipples are too small, or something. And so now when I do find one that looks like it might actually work, I'm afraid to pull the trigger. I buy 10 sets of demos, go home and try them all on, and then wind up trashing them. It's too much choice, but also it's very hard to find exactly what you want in SL with things that are as subjective as skins. Thanks for starting this thread. Maybe we can both learn something. I beg to differ about Gala Phoenix's Curio skins...they ROCK! Ive always worn her skins from a day 3 and was soooo excited about the new range, then the bubble was burst with the new colour range...temporarily! I used to wear sunkissed in her range..but having tried all the demos more than once (yes Iam VERY patient lol) I came to find & love one of the new shades.
In each pack you actually get 8 skins!! 2 darker toned (different lipstick colours on each), 2 darker toned with freckles , 2 lighter toned (diff lip colour on each) 2 lighter toned with freckles...amazing value and LORD...the details are fabulous, especially the vagina & nipples..no need to wear a prim one now, it looks good, even uhmm...when *splayed* , less of that tearing in the skin when youre all akimbo.
If you join her group, you can also get the *teaser gift* full skins for free!(go to notices and its in the history) (i wore them for a few days to get used to them in all lighting etc...

The newest Gala skins do not impress me at all. The shading is too heavy and the faces all look like they belong to a different body - skin tone on the face is consistently too light for the rest of the body, especially that "Petal" skintone. Yuck. She looks like she was sunburned with whiteface.

The only thing I don't like about the newest Curio skins is that the faces don't all work on the same shape, like the previous ones do. I love the 'Breeze' ones, but I probably wouldn't buy either of the other two sets, because the faces don't work on me. Gala's skins have been my favorites for a long time, though.
I've tried Redgrave demos, but they don't work on me... I'm usually wearing one of Nomine's Windlight skins if I'm not wearing one of Gala's. I have a bunch of demos for the newer Chai skins saved aside as well-- they look much better than the previous ones to me, the navel is much more realistic. May end up getting a couple eventually.
I also have a set that just got sent out as a Pixel Dolls group gift... more makeup than I usually wear, but it's a gorgeous skin, so I may rotate that one in now and then.
If there's a support group for skins, I think I need to join it-- I can't stop trying demos, no matter how many skins I have. Must have more!

I'm happy with Celestial Studios. I only have the one skin, I've had it since soon after I came to SL. I have actually been making a skin, as an exercise, and it's turned out quite well so far although there's more work to do. It's not for myself though, I'm staying with my CS skin - so it's been tested on a long-suffering alt!

Well I found the Curio store last night, after being in SL for 2 years, I still thought the only place I could get Curio was A-Lady. I liked the Breeze also, but ended up with Vixen. I never change shapes so that's not an issue for me. One of the ones I got has no lipstick, which is a really different look for me but I love it for everyday. Glad we had this discussion!
