HELP setting permissions on gift boxes

ok, so I am trying to set up a gift vendor in my store (for no copy, xfer ok in case someone wants to buy a gift) only I am having a little difficulty setting permissions on the item boxes.

First I tried while they were in my inventory, then I rezzed them all, and still am having the same problem.

First question:
Obviously if they are going to be transfer ok, they need to be no copy. But, if either the MOD or COPY boxes are not checked, the transfer box is greyed out (but with a checkmark in it). Does this mean that the item defaults to transfer enabled? and as long as I uncheck the COPY box, I'm all good?

Second question:
Should the permissions on the items inside the box be set the same way (no copy xfer ok)? I'm thinking yes, but had the same little problem there.

It is probably as simple as the item defaulting to transfer ok but I want to be sure before I do it :)

Help is appreciated!

As long as the COPY in not ticked in the item itself (not the box), you should be ok. I suggest you create an alt and test your boxes before making them available to the public.

If they're clothing layers then you're fine changing permissions when they're in your or a prim's inventory, but never do it that for prims (whether it's furniture or a necklace). Always rez prims, change their permissions, then take.

That's normal behaviour, yesh :).

If you uncheck either copy or transfer then transfer or copy respectively will become checked and grayed out because any item's base permission will always be either copy or transfer.

In your specific case the gift box needs the same permissions as what's inside (NC/T), although nothing bad will happen if it's C/T (once again, only change permissions on prims while they're rezzed) either.

If the box is C/NT then the person buying them wouldn't be able to pass the box on (although they could pass the contents of it on).

(Edited to *bump* Calveen's suggestion. It's never a bad idea to buy it on an alt and make sure that all the permission are what you'd expect them to be :))
