Hello, I met another avatar today in SL who could do things I cannot explain.
The thing which baffled me most is, I TPed to another sim, and he immediately IMed me where I had been gone.
He was not on my friends list, so could not "find me on the map", also I did not wear prim attachments with scripts which could send that information.
Can anyone explain that phenomen? I am quite scared, can everyone exactly follow my steps through SL???
Best regards, Anja

search the forums, it has been discussed several times
in a nutshell, there is a way to track where a person has gone to trough lsl, they can only follow you if you tp within 96 meters
to loose stalkers, tp to a random sim and tp right into the corner for maximum distance from the center and when getting there, tp out to another random sim, good chance they lost you and can`t track anymore

Wait, thats a little confusing. He IMd you after you had gone, or...he IMd you and told you exactly where you had gone to?

if you use the map, can you just tp from sim to sim 3-4 times, and lose them that way?

You don't need to know where someone has TP'd to IM them, and they don't have to be your friend, either. If they noted your name, they can find you in Search, then choose IM on your profile. Or, before you TP'd out, they right clicked on you to access your profile. And Welcome to the Forums!

As long as he knows your name he can look you up and IM you anywhere. IM's don't care where you are.
That doesn't mean he knows where you are though.

I'm not a scripter, so I'm necessarily a bit vague here, but there is an interval between the time you start a tp and the moment it is completed when it is possible to identify both the location you left and the locatiojn you are going to. Some weapons systems exploit that fact and allow their owners to "follow" you to the tp destination. Immediately tping to another random sim before he can follow you and get a new read on your new destination will defeat that. If your rezz time or other delays are too slow to prevent his doing that, logging off, and relogging in another, preferably unrelated sim, will absolutely prevent that.

Hi, thanks for all the help! I search some more and think it's the functionality described here: /54/bc/210861/1.htmlusing llGetObjectDetails() Best regards, Anja

you can file an Abuse Report
01-11-2008 15:08
From: Har Fairweather Some weapons systems exploit that fact and allow their owners to "follow" you to the TP destination. You may want to invest in a very good multi purpose tool called the MystiTool...Mystytool (one of those names anyway) It has some very good features to protect you and defend you. (there is a free version available as well) but the best defense is to catch this stalker in the act and have witnesses with you...then the lot of you can file an Abuse Report (AR) and if LL is not too busy they will investigate this goon. If enough AR's are filed on him/her then this person could be banned. No need to be running scared. Tell you what stop by the Forum cartel hangout this evening, and there should be a few veterans there who can help out tremendously

If you start running from griefers in an online world be it a game or something like SL, you're gonna be running a loooooonnng time. ARs work (for me at least). Just don't be too long-winded, include a snapshot (theres a button for that right in the abuse report window when it pops up), and tell them how the idiot broke TOS. Otherwise you probably won't get results. But let the griefer know. Say "reported" or "Don't mind me, I'm halfway done reporting you...got the screenshot, thanks for standing still" (I like to 'improv' with 'em ) and send it in. Griefers always want ATTENTION above anything else, remember that. If you can ignore 'em do it. If you don't feel like ignoring, Report...and if you have to leave the area, Abuse Report before you do. Have fun

Just to be clear: Mystitool, or in fact any other gadget/script, cannot stop the particular griefing done here, tracking by use of llGetObjectDetails. Your only recourse is to TP rapidly 3 or so times. I would not respond to any IM, even when you successfully lose him; you don't want anyone who has already shown themselves a creep to decide to give you special attention.
But as mentioned by the infallible Ordinal, LL has a fix for LSL that closes this loophole ... so at least this particular griefer toy will be broken soon.

My advice is to wear a Mystool, shields, AOs and whatever else you can find and hope for the best. If all else fails the old standby, a tinfoil hat, always works.

The avatar with the mysterious mapping ability could be an alt of an account that does have mapping privileges from the OP. Run both accounts at the same time.

Just ask him to marry you. That should chase him away for good.

If you've already left the region, DON'T send the person any IM's... IM's can reveal your location, if they're looking.

LMAO...I love women (okay that sounded like I'm over-generalising but who cares ) That's pure genius, only you gotta be 100% ..."serious" to scare him off haha I don't know if I would have the stomach to try that but if you do it plz post the hilarious results to the forums

The answer to this question in a year will be
"Trackbot"
A series of networked Alt accounts running on a custom client that will track all the Avs in SL.
