I wonder.
I am living in Germany but I am born in the USA and have dual US and Irish nationality.
I do have an SS number, but of course that won't be listed in my public records in Germany.
Will my Irish passport work for verifying my identity? I don't have a personalausweis because... I'm not a German citizen. I use my passport for identification.
There's no information as to where we expats stand with this system. Will we drop through the cracks and be unable to verify?

Dont worry, give Homero Simpson's info and you get verified *This is real. As i said in aother thread, any child could provide his parents info and get verified. So, whats the security about this???

So, whats the security about this??? yeah of course, that's why Germany doesnt accept this method of verification. They have PostIdent. You have to show up in person. It's the way that Paypal has to do verification in Germany. I don't see that LL will be held to a different standard. I would actually be able to identify via PostIdent... but of course most people would refuse to do so. (because it involves showing up at the post office in person and presenting your ID)

Indeed and with no real audit trail. To the OP if you have an Irish passport you can verify with that. For the states it's last 4 digits of your SSN or drivers license. In Germany you can used your identity card number.

In Germany you can used your identity card number. yes I know I can use it, will it work is my question. I have no idea what records they are trying to match against. My passport number has changed since I registered with the town hall.

You can pester LL aggain and again until you get an answer....

Ah gotcha, not sure at all as it asks for your name, address and country and it is dependent upon country as to which options for verifying are available. The options for the UK, Ireland and Germany are different so you may bork things up

Well. I can't promise for the rest of the grid, but if anyone feels a strong urge to mark their parcel 'adult' in Caledon I'll probably ask them why, and discourage it unless they have a strong, strong, strong reason for doing so. I know literally everybody, and I just can't think of even one person who would have to worry. Not that I want everyone to show me their naughty toys, or even tell me their reasons. But as far as I'm concerned playing around in a skybox or having a few naughty books or pictures doesn't cover it. We have avatar rights. I wouldn't even look in on things unless I've got probable cause and a really big problem. With 1.5 million meters of Caledon sky half a kilometer thick to worry about, it would take me ages to poke around even if I wanted to. Anyone caught snooping around an obviously private area is peeping and harassing, and I'll report them instantly for it. It's no casual visitor's business what goes on in private areas. And if privacy becomes 'that big' of an issue, I'll personally get a zillion Psyke orbs and set them to allow Caledon citizens only above a certain altitude, if that's what it takes.

That's a fine sentiment, but is there anything from LL saying that from their perspective skyboxes (which are intended to be private) are exempt from the content "restrictions"?

Likely I'd be held far more responsible than the Company for content within my sims. I'm not terribly worried. The grid is a veritable hurricane of porn, and... us? Pffft. We are not exactly the leading edge of smut, to put it mildly.

But unlike other places on the grid, we keep it private. But I have met quite a few interesting folks Me, I don't engage in such activity (ok, not much in the last months but I've not always been this pristine lol) but I do have my skin biz to think about. I really don't know where it stands with the adult ratings.

Des,
actually, I may find myself having to verify for customer support reasons. Although I don't personally do the pixel grind in SL these days (unless someone has contacted me to make something lol), its part of my SL business with skin and other projects I do, and I am often called into areas which have adult materials around.
But... I have no intention of marking my Caledon land adult for my skin biz, unless I am forced to. Anything really explicit (pose balls wise) I would just sell via the websites of SLX and OnRez.

Hooo boy. grin No, no, not what you are thinking, I don't partake in pixel sex. It's too hilarious, especially when you are discussing a land deal, and a resident's wee willie accidentally strikes up a separate conversation with the girl-parts of someone walking by! I am sooo glad nobody could hear me laughing! But even so, we are just talking about some pixel Ken and Barbies here, with a little added detail. Maybe some toys. Not child pornography, not videotaped violent sexual abuse. Most non-grid 'regular folks' would laugh at such as somewhere between hilarious and too geeky for words. And there's hardly a secret in Caledon that someone hasn't already ratted out via IM, notecard or email to me. I just consider 99.9% of it none of my business. I understand your reasons for personal verification - it makes sense. And the problems with your situation. Though I would suspect that if you called the Company toll free and just growled a purr at a male customer service representative, they would mark you verified with no further questions asked....

(cashed out of the mainland a while back) I left a support question on the portal. We'll see if it gets answered.

There's no information as to where we expats stand with this system. Will we drop through the cracks and be unable to verify? There are others in the same boat as you, for example, I live in a country different to either of my nationalities (much like you), and there is no official list of who lives where (why should there be). The closest I could come would be local bills and rent agreements. Also I am highly unlikely to give them passport numbers, as I have already had them stolen once, should anything happen again, can you imagine how loud they would laugh if they found out that I had given *that* information to a game company, a *non* government agency, and even more-so, over the Internet?? Does anyone here really think that they would ever hold a passport again after such a demonstration of "lack of regard" for such important information. An aside: Getting a new credit card is a piece of cake compared to getting a new passport (from the way some people post, it would seem that at least in some places in the world, passports are as easy to get, is that *really* true, or are those posters just trolling?)
