Several months ago, I befriended an avi in game. Around the same time, I had a "romance" of sorts with another avi. A couple months later, my friend and I decided to buy a club they worked at and I frequented. The sim owned the club and they knew the sim owners well. My friend handled the deal. I gave my friend $4,000 lindens, which was my portion of the partnership deal, and my friend and my friend's partner (supposedly) put in their parts. When the sale was done, my friend ended up as the owner. I couldn't even rez in the land, work the contest board or send notices/announcements in a club I co-owned. My friend finally added me to the "staff" group which gave me some basic abilities around the place, but it remained something we argued about.

At the same time, I was funding all the contests. I was told to keep a log of it and I would be reimbursed. Around that same time, I found out "my friend" and the person I had been having a romantic relationship with, were the same person. My friend's alt. I also found out that the tier payment for the club, included her home on a different parcel, but different sim.

It should go without saying that I was upset and my friend and I argued. At that point, she muted me and removed me from her friend list and banned me from the club I "supposedly" co-owned. She then sent out a VIP notice to nearly 200 members and called me the devil.

Two days prior I had given her $5,878 lindens for my portion of the tier and things we needed. I asked her to return it and she refused. I also had some builds in the club and some club equipment. She then put up a huge pot on the contest board that night and made a joke out of my money.

I reported this to LL and have heard nothing. Am I really just out of luck here? Chalk it up to a learning experience? Having a friend turn out to be two faced is one thing, but to take lindens that translate to real money is another.

LL does not get involved in resident disputes.

I'm not sure why you continued to give her any money or why you funded the contests when you were not made an owner in the group right away.

Because my friend claimed to have a RL medical issue that caused the friend to be away from SL during that time and I believe it to be true.

LL won't do a thing because they have a long standing policy of not interfering in resident to resident disputes. I hate saying this, but you might wanna just write this off as a learning experience and go on with you Second Life.

all transactions between residents are gifts as far as LL is concerned.

Your initial post states "several months ago" you befriended this person and then "a couple of months after that" you trusted them enough to give them half of the price of the clue. In that amount of time, what had your friend done to instill such trust and belief in a total stranger on the internet? Your friend was apparently inworld enough to add you to the "staff" role and for your to argue with them about that.

I advise not trusting so fast in the future, especially when identity and personality cannot really be confirmed and/or there is money involved.

tedd, you need to step back and realize you sent money to anonymous people over the internet. You know bvetter than to do that. Like responding to a e-mail stating you won a Nigerian Lottery or clicking the pop-up that offers you a free iPod. Just learn from your experience.

Now go forth and prosper.

When you file an AR, you should have gotten back an email that states the following from LL:

"Linden Lab examines each abuse incident independently and will not disclose the resolution of abuse/community standards violations with Second Life Residents, except when necessary to introduce a new or amended policy. Linden Lab will not disclose incident details including (but not limited to): identity of the reporter, details of chat logs, resolution of incidents, and/or suspensions/banning of Second Life Residents."

This means they won't be contacting you about a resolution or lack of one.

As far as your specific situation, they really don't get involved in these type of conflicts. It's a matter of live and learn. I had it happen to me where an agreement was reached for a service, but the person never came through on their end of it, and dummy me had already paid them. So you learn not to pay in advance and that not everyone can be trusted, and don't bother with the AR.

However, AR's should be filed if someone is committing violations in-game or on LL owned places such as XStreet and forums, as per the Guidelines and TOS.
