Who sells modifiable shapes?

The good advice my friend gave me right before she logged off for the night was to buy a modifiable shape (so it can be adjusted for different skins, clothes, etc).

I have gone to many, many shops, but none of the shapes I see allow copies or modifications.

Can I have some help with shop names and landmarks?

Rhaorth Antonelli (she's a regular here in these forums) should pop in sometime soon...........she sold me a very nice shape at a very reasonable price. It's modifiable. I'd recommend her in a heart beat.

My advice, unless you are absolutely challenged artistically, is to make your own shape. If you're going to play with the sliders anyway, what's the difference?

All that is fine.............until you come to the face. The shape of the face will alter the look of the skin more than any single thing. A good shape maker has an eye for that........it's not easy either. Rha is one with that knack. I never touch the face once I find a good shape.........I'll change the skin first.

I "sell" a free one in my shop.

Free because I want there to be more easy options for people who do not wish to be Frankenbarbies.

I think Sarah Nerd has some free ones that are modifyable.

I've got tons that I've made over the past couple years.....all modifiable....I don't do anything with them except photo projects. I've re-created celebs and models just for fun and done some custom work....but I've become to busy IRL to worry about selling in SL.
So....if you want some shapes just to mess with.....give me a shout and I'll pass a bunch over to ya!!! ;) If you want to see what sort of work I do.....take a look at my flickr stream.....all the images are my own shapes and more recently, my own skins.

Colette Meiji sells a six-pack (if I remember correctly) of shapes for L$ 300- diversity in body types, fully mod. and copy (no transfer), and even includes 3 copies of each one because she knows that, despite the advice she gives on the notecard, you'll forget to save before modifying. I agree with the sentiment to just make your own with sliders, but if you are determined to buy shapes, her's are a great deal.

I think your friend gave you some sound advice. You can check out Second Skin Labs for modifiable shapes.

I find it very difficult to separate shape design from skin design, so I create and sell Copy, Mod shapes separately for all the skins I design. All shapes are going to look different with various skins and vice versa, but a skin will alter a look far more than a shape will (unless you are looking for some freakish kind of shape). Some people just buy a shape with a free demo skin to explore a look, while others (who are presumably much more attached to their shapes), just buy a skin that works with their existing shape. That's not my recommendation, but it's a matter of personal preference.

All my shapes are meant as starting points for personal modification. Like a few people have already mentioned here, if you have the time to fiddle with the sliders and feel comfortable with the results, then your next decision is going to be about the value of working with a pre-designed shape. It may or may not save you time and effort depending upon what you are looking for. A skin, on the other hand, is significantly more difficult to modify and fiddle with unless you have specific tools, expertise, and a LOT of time.

My recommendation is to start with a skin you like, then create or buy a shape that works well with it. Never buy a shape first, especially if it can't be modified.

I second the recommendation for Collette Meiji.

Chellonia Regent's shapes are mod, too, IIRC, and I don't remember them being terribly pricy - but I shopped there nearly two years ago, so I can't say for sure even if she's still in business.

There are free shapes in your Inventory Library, and I am pretty sure most or all of them are modifiable.

The others listed here are not familiar to me, so I can't make a recommendation. My current shape is from the Free Dove, but naturally I can't remember the name of the designer and she didn't seem to have a shop when I tried to look her up ages ago.

There was another I bought ages ago from someone who's still in business, but I can't remember the name of the business, though it's right at the tip of my brain... If I think about it and can still find the skin in my inventory, I'll try to remember to post it later.

Modifiable shapes are out there, if you go looking long enough.

Add my name to the list of Colette's fans. My shape is a modified version of one of hers, that she and I tweaked over time. She has a great eye for real body shapes and proportion, and her prices are unbeatable. I recommend her shapes to any new person as a great starting point.

My shapes (both adult and kid) are ones I have tweaked over time, starting with the default shape. Not perfect, but I get people screaming if I make any drastic changes now, that I just would not be me anymore since they are so used to how I look.

KMADD does?

I bought my shapes from KMADD and they have all been modifiable..at least they were about a year ago.

They aren't cheap but Maddox and Kirk do let you mess with the sliders

A few miscellaneous points:-

1. It's very easy to make your own shape. In fact you don't have to make one - just create a new one in your inventory, and it's there. Then play with the sliders a bit.

2. Getting other people's shapes is fine but a face (skin) looks different on different shapes, so buying what looks like a beautiuful face (skin), and then getting a modifiable shape to go with it, won't produce the hoped-for face, unless you put a good deal of time into tweaking the face and, even then, the 'look' may be *very* hard to get. Ideally, you would buy a skin you like that comes with its own modifiable shape, so that you can tweak the body but leave the face as it is.

3. Although shapes are easy to make, not everyone knows the proportions of real bodies, so many people's creations are poor. I often smile inwardly when I see females with waists so tiny that if they bent over for anything, they'd break in two. In one chat I had, the girl thought her waist looked proprtionally realistic when it actually looked incredibly silly.

That's just choice though, but what people *do* get wrong very often is the length of the arms. I didn't even notice it until I started making and selling animation (for my furniture). Too often, a person's hand will be inside the other person's body, and it isn't because the animations are wrong - it's because the person's arms are way too short. So short that, in RL, they would look decidedly weird, but it doesn't look weird in SL for some reason. Whenever I've suggested that a person stands up in RL, hangs their arms by their side, and notes where the fingertips go to on their thighs, and then compare it with where they go to on their av's thighs, they are amazed at how ridiculously short their av's arms are.

It's good to have a modifiable shape, but mostly because you will probably want to tweak it.

Most people, as far as I know, don't change their shape for their clothes. They change their clothes to fit their shape.

You will also find stores whose clothes fit your shape.

Never, ever go to a "shape shop", those are never modifiable.
Instead you go to good skin shops, like Sakurako, Sakura, D-Skin, etc, that includes shapes. Those are almost always modifiable.
It's funny how people are so protective of their work, even in shapes, which is just a combination of numbers. I usually never buy the crap that are no copy, no mod, no transfer, those are just ridiculous beyond reason.
