I haven't been keeping up with the broad landscape of alternative viewers out there. Lately, the "official" SL client is giving my Sony VAIO laptop with NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 chipset some problems, namely that the client seizes up on a fairly regular basis.
Two questions... Does anyone maintain a list of all the alternative viewers out there so that I can try them? And do folks have any recommendations on which viewers are most robust?

The Second Life Wiki has a page on alternate viewers called "Alternate Viewers" at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Alternate_viewers . You can find this easily later by doing a Google search for second life alternate viewers That page will likely be the first result. The most commonly mentioned ones here are the Nicholaz viewer and the Cool Viewer.

If you want to go back to a non-windlight viewer, then yes, you could try this Cool Viewer release: http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/cool-viewer-1-20-15-0-1-19-0-5-with-rlv-1-12-2

After trying out several last night, I concur that the Cool Viewer is my new viewer of choice.
As I said in my original post, I am mostly looking for stability on my less-than-state-of-the-art graphics chipset, and Cool seems to address that well. I was able to bop around in-world for a couple of hours without any problems.
Thanks for the suggestions and pointers...

- Ace It is also the most updated of the Non Windlight Viewers, and has a few features of it's own as well.

- Ace Was that using the latest CV 1.23 or the older non-windlight 1.19?

I would also suggest taking a look at Boy Lane's Rainbow Viewer, especially for computers with ATI graphics adapters. http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/The Netbook edition may be a good alternative.
