Hi

I'm still finding my way around SL and all the amazing things I can do lol! I am now interested in advertising my sim and my store. I know I can set up a blog, but does anyone know how I could link it with Fashion Planet so I could advertize on that feed? I'm clueless in that department...help!

I can probably help you wiht this, but I need you to be a litle more explicit. What is it precicely you want to do with your RSS feed? Bring it inworld at your store? ... or are you looking for ways to bring feed readers inworld TO your store?

I need to know how to post on my blog and link it to the feed so that when people go to fashion planet they will see my post and I can get more people to my store/land.

OK, first understand that your blog is on the web, and SL isn't. And, if you have a proper blog from a service like Blogger or Typepad, that software is generating a feed for that blog on it's own.

So, you dont have to 'link it to a feed', the blog will create it's own feed in those cases.

What you want to know, I think, is how to link that feed - and the content on your blog, since that's what's going into the feed - to your store location, so readers visit your store. Once way is to use an SLurl.

The newest article on my own blog uses an slurl for the MST3K Theater. You can check that to see how it works. It provides a teleport link from web content to your in-store location. All you need is the coordinates and the name of the region.

WOW you must work fast... still finding your way around but want to advertise your sim and store??

I thought that it would be a good idea to learn and find one's way around sl first THEN get a sim and store hehe

ahh well. as for blogs, maybe do a search on the web for info about blogs and feeds and such, wealth of info out there.

I know people that buy land their first week in. No biggie, let the guy do what he wants. I have lots of blog and RSS experience anyway, so why not.

I think Fashion Planet may be the name of the store, AND the blog. Kind of hard to tell so far.

Ok maybe if I send you to the feed you will understand what I am saying better. Go to fashionplanet.worldofsl.com This is a feed that a lot of designers have posts on. I don't understand how they get their posts from their blog on to that feed?

I had another alt in SL lol! I was in SL for about a year exploring and shopping. Then I decided to take a break. When I came back I had a whole new interest...setting up my own success lol.

usually you have to ask the owner of the blog if you can place your feed (ie blog posts) there..

go to that page, scroll all the way to the bottom you will see the contact name there and their email

contact them and ask how you can be added and how it works (I plan to do that)

I have a blog, if you want to give me your blog address I can add it to my blog list
I tend to look at blogs listed in other people's lists and like to think that others do it too hehe

I was more amazed than anything (I went premium within a week of joining SL and owned land, but not a full sim LOL) If I could have afforded a sim I would have probably gotten one

That is not a feed. That is a blog. The RSS 2.0 feed for that blog is at this URL:
http://fashionplanet.worldofsl.com/rss20.xml

Likely, those designers have their own sites or blogs which produce their own RSS feeds. Those feeds have their content placed into this blog as web content, and it produces it's own RSS feed for you to subscribe to. This is what's known as 'syndication' and is a very common usage for RSS.

so.. I have a feeling the OP wants to know (and now I do too LOL) how does one go about getting their blog added to those listed there?

(I just sent an email off to the seller, as I suspect this is how it is done, not an automated thing, a request type thing instead)

That would be it exactly. The blog owner there simply incorporates your RSS feed into his web content, and your content now becomes part of his feed as well.

so to the OP, scroll to the bottom of the fashion planet blog, there you will see an email link, send an email to the person listed there and hope for the best

You know I call it my sim, but only one third of it is relly mine hehe. Sorry about that. It's divided into 3 parts. My brother and friend have their own part. I have mine etc... I'm not the listed owner on it though. That is my brother. He is super generous and gave me my own section to do as I wish. I did not see you being snippy at all. No one was in fact and I'm glad the pie is out...toss me some will ya!

A good resource on RSS feeds and what can be done with them is feedburner.com ... might give them a try. There's a definite learning curve for this stuff but it can do a lot for getting your content seen.
