The biggest parcel on my sim is my main shop. I want to cut a piece off that land, but I'm afraid to do it. I'm afraid that I will lose traffic numbers or even the entire index page of my main parcel/shop. That would be disaster.
I remember a thread in these forums about a year ago. It explained very well how to divide a parcel without losing characteristics of the original parcel. It had something to do with the order of selecting both parcels, or priority for the biggest parcel. Something like that. Unfortunately I can't find the thread anymore.
Can anybody help me? I want to cut off a small piece of my biggest land. After that I'll want to add a small piece to that new smaller land, or remove a small piece from it. What is the safest way? Does anybody know where that forum thread is?

Phil Deakins knows a hell of a lot about this but he's been missing in action lately.

I just select a piece and choose subdivide.
Then, go in and make the settings what they were.
It should not change traffic.
Reset the landing point if you have to.

From: Ciaran Laval Phil Deakins knows a hell of a lot about this but he's been missing in action lately. Spoke to him the other day and told him he's being missed here. @ Melita: Subdividing will go okay I guess. I'm only concerned when I want to add or contract small parts of land to the new created land. I did it before, and my whole land was gone including the index-page brrrrrr.

The largest parcel retains the settings, except for autoreturn - it gets turned off in both parcels.

Settings aren't really the problem - profile picks are.
As Gabriele said, the largest parcel retains the settings, and it retains all picks that were created on it, but *not* picks that were created on the smallest parcel - they are gone for good. People whose profiles contain picks that were created on the smaller parcel still keep them in their profiles but the location is changed to "no parcel" and, as far as search is concerned, they no longer count for any parcel. So it's wise to think about which small piece to cut out.
