take it into your inventory then rezz it in the new place.

Taking and re-rezzing as Peggy suggests is probably the easiest way.

If you're not moving it too far, and not over land that has object entry disabled or a short autoreturn, you could select it, chose edit, and reposition with the arrow keys.

If you know about where you want it, you MIGHT be able to stand on that spot, write down the X,Y,Z coordinates, return to the object, select it, and type those coordinates into the Position fields on the Object tab. In theory that should work, BUT each value you type in will cause the object to move as you go to the next field, which could result in the object moving out of your select range or into someone else's land that will not allow object entry or will autoreturn it to you. So I don't know how well that will work in practice.

It would be a good idea to disable autoreturn on the new parcel until you have your object positioned and set to the correct group (if the land is group-owned).

Just sit on it before starting to move it around :).

Sat on prims are exempt from disabled "Object Entry" and auto-return.

…and everyone assumes they are talking about their own prim!

If it isn't a prim you own, you can move it only with a few conditions, 1. the owner of the prim allows you to move their objects, 2. it's someone elses prim on your land, so you can either delete or return to owner, 3. if the prim or object is set to physical and set to 'allow anyone to move'

Oh, snap! Kitty, you are absolutely right. I've even done that before to keep my build from "getting away" from me - in fact I have a one-prim cushion I sometimes link to builds just so I can do that AND have a built-in sit target.

I've only ever moved my builds around on my 512, mostly vertically, so I didn't think about those other exemptions.

You're right, Dekka - I didn't even think about that possibility.

The more I learn, the less I know. ;-)
