I assumed it was a 'free smile' I tried but that has been removed and deleted yet she is still gurning.

Well, if you're certain you've unattached the AO (using 'detach all'), I would suggest clearing cache and logging off/on.

Akasuki, there are also face lights that contain "emotes" such as winks. If you can't get rid of the wink, try taking off all attachments and relogging.
