Hiya all,

I just purchased a sound which was mod and copy....and I'm trying to incorporate it into a personal gesture I'm making for my own use, but when I go to add the sound, it's not listed in the options, yet it's in my inventory. I'm sure it's something I'm overlooking but I was wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on the matter?

Thanks in advance.. :)

look under recent in inventory and double check its called what you think it is, that's all I suggest, because in the past I've been certain I knew what I was looking for and then it had a totally different name

I'm pretty sure you cannot use a no trans sound in a gesture. I'm not even sure if you can use a no copy sound in a gesture either, for that matter.

Thanks for the replies guys....

It's definitely called what I think it's called..lol

I wonder why you can't use the no transfer sound in a gesture.....if it's just for your own use? Wouldn't that just mean that you can't sell the gesture etc..

Anyway, I'm going to try it with a full perm sound.....

The no transfer is just a hangup some people have in sl. Same with the other two of no mod and no copy. No copy is the only one that's reasonable but only at times.

Gestures are just so unbelievably brain damaged that I finally pretty much gave up on them. I have no idea how or why they are so weird about permissions, but almost every time I've tried to build any that aren't just straight text replacement, I've hit a brick wall. And there's nothing that says "clueless" like a non-original gesture: "Hey, kewl! Now my home can sound just like Help Island Public!"

That said, there is a kludgy workaround that may get some use from that no-transfer sound. As it happens, scripts can play any damned sound they please, even ones not in inventory (using the sound's UUID). So, it's possible to wear an attachment that plays the sound when triggered by something a gesture says on an obscure channel. Obviously the attachment script will have to have an open listen, but it will be just on that obscure channel. Also, it can't be a HUD because sounds played in the HUD are heard only by the wearer (or something like that).

Torley's gesture video in the KB specifically says sounds (and animations) need to be full perm.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I always thought that was hugely annoying. I've made animations with the intention that people could use them in gestures, and realized I needed to make the gestures too, not just sell the animations. Annoying, as people can't customize their gestures.

As long as its full perm...

Pocket , move the sound to your Linden sound folder in your inv and as long as its full perm it should then give you the option to use it in a gesture of your own...
