This may be a silly question, but is there a way to get rid of all those lndmarks that populate the map window? I am not talking about LM's you get in inventory; I know you delete them just like any other item. When you open up the big map, there is a drop down list of landmarks. Is there a way to clear some of these out? Maybe a setting to limit how long they stay in your TP history?

Correct me if I'm wrong but all those LM on map are your own LM.... it happens so you can search the location of your LM

The map populates with ANY Landmark in your inventory.
If you don't want them to show on the map, make a new Notecard and drag them all to the notecard (ie, make a big list there). Be sure to name the Notecard something you'll remember what it is ^.^

I bet they're all hiding in Inventory somewhere, probably buried in folders of purchased items. (At least I think that's how it's supposed to work.)

Oooooh I like that notecard idea!! Often I find that a majority of those landmarks on the map drop menu are (as mentioned above) mixed in with purchases. This-drives-me-batty!! What you can do is look at the name of the landmark on your map and then search for a word or two in the search part of your inventory to find it and then delete it. I try and remember to do it as I buy things but miss em sometimes.

Open your inventory, select Show Filters from the File menu (I think). Select Clear All to uncheck all the item types, then check Landmarks so that it's the only one selected.
This will let you scan through your entire inventory, seeing only the landmarks, and making it easy to delete the unnecessary ones.

From: Dinalya Dawes *blinks* What....*logs in to try this one* Ah, the novelty of advanced inventory managment ^.^ ...if only we all knew these things when we first started lol It also helps to Open New Window when moving items around in inventory from one folder to another. This option lets you open TWO (or more) inventory windows so you can have different folders open for easier movment/organization. ~Jessy

From what it looks like to me, any LM that is ever given to you leaves a LM in the list. Also, any teleport you take from search leaves a LM in the map window's list. Deleting the LM from inventory does not seem to do anything with the map window's list.

Deleting the LM from inventory does not seem to do anything with the map window's list. Deleting the LM should remove it from the world map listing. And places you TP to should NOT be setting a LM on your world map list. The first may simply need a clear cache/relog to repopulate the map. If that doesn't work, and your map IS updating LM wherever you TP to, then file a Support Ticket for Linden help. That would be a bug imo. ~Jessy EDIT: Also, some scripted attachments keep track of your TPs, so be sure that it's not something you're wearing that's adding the LM's automatically through scripts.

Yes, deleteing landmakes from inventory is easy. I Have done the sort and show like Kidd suguested as this is how I keep inventory in line on an ongoing basis. But removing them here plus purging the trash does not change my map widows list of LM's.

Jessy, I am starting to think that as well. I guess it is a bug somehow.
Anyway, thanks all for the help. I just wanted to make sure I was not missing some simple setting or undocumented feature somewhere.

I knew about the opening two inventory windows, thats a life saver or I would be click n dragging for days! lol This filter trick, I am in love. I just deleted around 50 more landmarks I hadnt bothered to get rid of before. Since my inventory is pushing 17k in items, every bit to go helps!! IMO, the only landmarks that should show on the map should be the ones IN the landmark folder. Down to about a dozen in my drop down section now yay! Melissa...try clearing your cache and relog, maybe that will help get them out of your map list? Hopefully at least

Cleared the cache and all is well.
Sorry to be a bother. I should have thought to do that first.

I just want to point out a silly mistake I made when using the Show Filters that by saying here will hopefully prevent someone else from doing...
JUST DELETE THE LANDMARK
I went and was deleting folders, and since only the landmark was showing I figured it was just deleting the landmark...Nope, I deleted all the items in those folders as well *OOPS*
So that's something I tell new people when I teach them the Show Filters trick...just because something isn't showing in that folder, doesn't mean you're not deleting more than the landmark.

Hmmmm, i seem to have places in that pulldown map menu that aren't in my Landmarks folder. I also have many of the same place in the map pulldown menu. I have deleted them in the Landmarks folder in Inventory, but that map pulldown menu is a mess. I am confused about how you actually cleared out the map menu.

Go back to page 1 of this thread and read all the posts. Many offer tips on how to find/delete/manage your Landmarks. Not all Landmarks on the map pulldown are from your Landmarks folder. They can be anywhere in your inventory. ~Jessy

ouch
that sure as heck was a lot of landmarks then again, I am almost 2 years in SL and have never cleaned out lm's
bout time I did (oh and remember to empty trash when done LOL)

Don't empty your trash! Everything you deleted is still in your inventory's trash until you actually empty the trash. You can drag things of the trash and keep anything you had not meant to delete.
