Well, just downloaded the new release candidate and, man, maybe its a coincidence, but I have just had three times as many crashes as the last six months total. Fixed 22 bugs? How? Layering them on some RC from last year? Back to the regular viewer for the first time in ages.

Probably because of this:

From: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release_Candidate/1.22
Temporary Changes:

We have enabled some special debugging checks during the Release Candidate cycle. These have a short-term effect of causing the viewer to crash more when something goes wrong, but it assists Linden Lab to improve stability by identifying those failure cases. We appreciate that you send us crash reports that occur! These extra checks WILL be removed in a later iteration of the Release Candidate. But these can be turned off by a Resident:

* Turned on Thread monitoring (Watchdog) during the Release Candidate cycle
o Thread monitor will detect when the application is frozen for a period greater than 20 seconds and possibly force a crash with detailed logs
o Thread monitor can be disabled with a command line setting "--set WatchdogEnabled 0"
o The threshold timing of the thread monitor is set in the file \SecondLifeReleaseCandidate\app_settings\settings.xml under the key "MainloopTimeoutDefault"

I had to laugh at this:

From: someone
New features:

* Added: VWR-3434[c]: New feature for text chat: "Whisper" as well as Say and Shout.

That's not a NEW feature. It's a VERY OLD feature that was removed years ago, because no one used it. What's next, bring back prim taxes?

CV has whisper... I hit it accidentally a lot since it's [Shift]+[Enter] and, I'm kinda usually still on the shift key because of my smiley. (^_^)

But.. Whisper can be fun.. I do actually use it together with my Mysti so I can make more targeted statements for a laugh. (^_^)y

OTOH, I now find that the Show Items on parcels don't always work for all items that should be included, but it works for the RC. Have a 126 prim sloop on a parcel that highlights properly in the RC, but not with the current viewer. Go figure.
