The kind of hair I'm looking for (and have never seen) is old school, very short, with a part on the side and barely enough to comb over on top. About a month away from a Marine Corps cut

You can do prim hair on the top, but it's usually in a more modern "faux hawk." Unfortunately, as great as they are, those skins (often obtained as a stolen full-perm freebie) are on just about every male avatar you run into. In my opinion there is a HUGE untapped market for better male skins with hair like that. Skin designers don't seem to understand that there are many male avatars out there who don't want to throw a prim mop-top on their head and go around looking like Prince Valiant, so we either go bald or use the Naughty skin. |

I agree with Avion. The last thing we need is another Dante skin from Naughty in SL. They are top quality though. I looked for the type of hair you are asking for and gave up. I found it one place but it was attached to a horrible avatar. Good luck! |

True, Avion. I'm quite happy with the skin I have already, so I'm a bit reluctant to get another. It's hard for me to believe that there are not enough male avatars to make this worth making. I'd pay a fair price for it. The hair in my avatar photo is what I'm wearing now, and it's the best I've found. It's nice but a tad too long for me. It's also in my eyes lol

With right tweaking you could easily do it in sliders.
If you got the patience to experiment with it. Problem though with longer hair if over the eyes it always looks weird whenever I do it. I personally prefer limited attachable prims myself. Are you talking about a crew cut type style but with bald spot? Like from the 1920s like Larry, Mo and curry type of hair style they used but with layer of thin hair with layer of long hair? _____________________

Just envision a guy who has been out of the United States Marine Corps for one month: his hair is still very short, but now he has enough hair to comb over on top and form a part on the side. He has hair but not much. _____________________

It's also in my eyes lol Oh, just so you know, I don't have any images or options turned on in these forums, so I've never seen anyone's profile or photo in here. So I hope you didn't think I was saying you look like Prince Valiant! I believe (but am perfectly willing to have someone correct me) that it would be nearly impossible to do a short men's haircut like we're talking about without having the base hair already painted on the skin. The prim hair would never lay down right when it's that short. You have to tint the prim parted comb-over and add it to the base painted hair. I have an alt that I think looks great this way, but like I say, it's more of a modern "faux hawk" and not a classic side part. And like Bradley, I also gave up trying to find one after shopping really far and wide, and just had to use the Dante. I'm convinced that what we're looking for doesn't exist, but needs to. HINT HINT to the skin designers! |

No, we're good Avion. I'd even be content with the shortest feasible hair on the sides with the part on the side. I just want my hair out of my eyes lol

He has hair but not much. I haven't done much yet with templates or hair yet but I am not sure what the restrictions for slider hair is like... I am sorry about bald spot comment I was confused confused. Issue I see with hair style like that with prims is scalp might show through. That is military crew cut. Could possibly be photosourced and put on template or drawn by right person but I got no clue how yet or I would do it for the upload cost and the experience but I don't know how it could be pulled off as a attachment without problems that I faced trying to make certain type of prim clothing or teleportion issues. You lose the hair placement often. That why I don't mess with stuff like that much though I did do bathrobe sleeves recently. Not sure if there is many good hair designers who would do this as custom job but you could ask around those who do make those things. I searched for military hair cuts and men's hair styles. Do you want a buzzcut, flat top or something else? http://haircutsformen.org/buzz/pages/tipsgreatcuts.htm is link of different men's hair styles.. _____________________

FD, What Steve is wanting is is pretty specific, but I think there's a bigger issue of just plain ol' short "guy hair" that barely exists in SL. Long hair, which is done well with a prim wig, is cute if you're 19, but I think many of us who are a little further along in life than that (See the 1980s thread!) just want short hair! |

Yeah I have wonder why other hair styles like haven't been out there.
But it does seem like between the sliders and products out there its only geared towards certain styles. I have no clue if any of hairstyles on this site that I posted above could be reproduced in SL http://haircutsformen.org/buzz/pages/tipsgreatcuts.htm I could try but the issue is I never done it before or even how to start. If I know exactly image wise if you could post it I could draw it out and see what I could do. But I won't make any promises either way. _____________________

I also think that Lost Thereian's male hairstyles are the most conservative. Although there is one at Gurl 6's mens shop that comes closer to what you speak of, can't remember the name off the top of my head.

I am hoping that a designer with a little time on his or her hands will see this and make me an estimate. I"m sure the overwhelming majority of the market is for new style cuts. The best bet is find designer who wants some new challenge or someone like myself who just creates for fun or is just starting out. I have no clue how much anyone else would charge for custom hair job. I just go looking around and asking designers who do that I guess. Maybe you will find one who is skilled who will do it for reasonable price. _____________________

yes, that cut works for me. If feasible, I'd like it to be a bit shorter on the sides, but as others have said, that may not be feasible with prims. _____________________

How fast does your hair grow you want it maybe inch longer? I would need size of your head and image of your head where you want it on with uv suit like one Robin Sojourner made. I just will do it for the challenge because I never done anything like this before and you just pay me what you can afford but there no promises I can do it. Contact me in world I see what I can do. I think I need to do some research. I go experiment drawing it out after my nap. Do you want in same color? Or other colors? _____________________

Oryx Tempel to the rescue, thanks ! The "Paul" skin by Rockwell Maltz at Made 72, 190, 63 is extremely close to what I want. L$4995 for the set of skins, L$2000 for a single skin. Come check it out, fellow male short hair lovers. This sim is PG, so behave lol

If you need it to be prim hair, you might try the "Simon" style at Goldi Locks. It's a little messier than what you describe, but I found it made me look a lot less hideous for some reason. It should, because it's got 200+ prims.
There's also "Jeremy" or "Johnny" at Diversity hair, or "Darien" at Philotic Energy. I think I saw something like that at Pazazz, maybe, dunno. Good luck! |

:^( Not all of us... I guess I am 50 going on 19 then. My hair is longer than it has ever been. I think older men with long hair look distinguished. So when I turned 50 I decided I would do it on my own terms, and let the hair go, along with the beard. My wife thinks I look cute, does that count? Before I went long it was 1/4-inch crop. The important thing is to be what you want... BTW, in game I use Messy Sunkissed by Tami McCoy. It mirrors RL for me, in that while a younger man, working in construction in the Texas sun all day long, I was quite blonde, and now that I work an indoor job in my mid life, I have turned more light brown. |

In real life I am 42 and I don't want to cut my hair because I want to keep as much that still remains. LOL
Anyway I am off to rest up before I try to tackle making hair. Steve and I had long discussion in world about his hair. _____________________
