Why do I have so much trouble with permissions?

This is a virtual world where anything can happen (or used to be) and it's still not permissive enough for me.

I'm trying to make one prim full perms. The prim contains three items - a notecard, a script, and the image that is pasted on the prim. There are no other prims linked to it in any way or in its contents.

All three items in the contents come up Mod, Copy, Transfer just fine in Properties, but for the prim itself, the permissions are always grayed out. This happens both in properties and in the edit mode.

It's just a prim for heaven's sake! And I made it. This is not the first time this has happened to me. Why is this so difficult?

Is SL just buggy right now, or am I forgetting something so non-intuitive I'll have this trouble every time I want to work with perms (which may not be much longer)?

Are all the perms greyed out?

Your own perms will be greyed out, you can't change them, are you talking about next owner perms?

Yes. Next owner perms are what is grayed out. I am very puzzled by this.

I'll try starting from scratch to see if that helps. It's just the one prim. It's just a frustrating thing I always seem to have trouble with.

Yeah good plan, just do it one item at a time and check the perms after each item is created or put inside the prim and you should hopefully be able to find the offending object, if the initial prim you create has the issue then it would sound like an SL issue.

I get stuff like this with lag at times. All sorts of dodgy things, more so with scripty stuff than shaping a prim,
