....ok, based on another thread, I decided that I could add more land to what I currently own for the same monthly tier. According to the SL(tm) Mainland Pricing page: http://secondlife.com/land/pricing.phpthe cutoff from $15.00/m to $25.00/mo is 4096 sqm. I currently own 2560 sqm. - group owned - mainland. (The first 512 sqm of that being my "tier free" Premium account benefit.) Ok, even including the 512 into the total, 4095-2560 = 1535 which, as I understand it from the chart is the amount of additional land I can own and still stay in the $15.00/mo tier. I just tried to purchase 1008 sqm land for the group....all was fine, including staying with the $15.00 tier. Then when I pressed "Buy" I got this blue drop down box that said something like owner does not have enough land credits for this purchase. Errrr...HUH? The person I was purchasing the land from didn't understand that either. What are "land credits?" More confusion here and more help needed, please...and thank you

You have to donate tier when you add land for a group. You have to tick the "Owner makes contribution" box.
So although you have enough scope, the group doesn't, so you could donate more tier to the group before the purchase.

You may have to make the tier donation first in the Land and L tab of group info. Just put it to the maximum. It will then calculate how much land you can buy and you should have no problems from there.

Thanks everyone I was looking at the tier breaks wrongly. I thought I could own up to 4096 sqm of land before the next tier jump ($25.00) kicked in. In fact it's just the opposite: I can only own 2048 (plus my 512 tier free - making my land 2560) before the next jump. *sighs* Darn. I ran the numbers and for me, adding my alt as a premium didn't lower my monthly tier either.

If the group has 2560 in tier donated (the free 512 plus the 204 , then the group can really own 2816 in land because groups get a 10% bonus. Making Alts premium is only cheaper if you can add enough Alts, and their corresponding free 512 donations, to drop you to the next tier level. In this case, because you are already 512 over the 2048, it would take two Alts to get you down to the $8/mth tier level - which BTW, if you pay quarterly or yearly is cheaper than the $15/mth tier with one premium.

The twisted mind in me saw "strange land question" and I wanted to make some comment about "Stranger With a Strange Land Question" ....
Grok?
The problem is, Czari is hardly a stranger.

If you are in Europe, don't forget that you pay VAT on premium memberships. And on teir fee too of course. The outcome of the calculation will differ a bit.

If you set your land to a group check with some of the big land companies, they can often undercut the lindens on teir as they buy w hole Sims worth of teir. It can save you a significant amount of money.

The ninja land group will rent tier to you for $1L per sqm a month. so an extra 512 of tier would only cost $512L a month, not bad at all, in fact I am more people don't take advantage of this. BTW, if you have extra tier they will also rent that from for 0.75L a month.

people probably are maxxed out on group spaces, one needs to join and remain in the landholding group to be able to donate
as for renting the land, not sure how they do that one... do they put it in your group? or do you have to use their group?

We'll join your group and donate the tier and then bill you weekly for it (actually L$0.25/sqm/week, slightly more expensive than what Rocketman said). Of course you totally keep ownership of your land and we only join the group with no permissions at all so there's no real risk at all. It works out cheaper for you up to about half a sims worth. Also you get to choose the exact amount of tier you buy instead of renting 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 of a sim when you don't need it all. We rent out about 500,000sqm of tier to around 50 people right now and obviously since we're charging you more than we pay we can take on many many more renters.
As for donating tier to us we pay L$0.15/sqm/week, we have about 70 or so people donating around 500,000sqm of tier right now but we're always happy to take more. Obviously we're paying you less than we'd pay LL but the assumption is that the tier is spare anyway so it's free money for the donator and cheap tier for me, everyone wins.

From: Lindal Kidd Did you consider the extra stipend payments to your premium alt? I did. My goal is to keep my monthly tier payment at $15.00 USD. That is all I can afford to pay RL and at the moment I don't earn enough L in game to make tier. (I played for a year and now am looking at ways to earn L in world.) Right now my stipend payment is my "spending money" - tips to the DJ I follow, etc. 300L doesn't go far. Needless to say my in world spending is getting cut WAY back.
