Hi! I was just curious if anyone could help me with a question I had. I'm trying to create a virtual helpdesk/computer repair place online and I kind of wanted a bot at the helpdesk that could maybe say your name and be a little interactive. All my google searches for "Second life bot" come up with camping bots and other things which aren't really relevant to what I aim to do, so I was just curious if anyone knew how I could achieve this, or even a step in a right direction to take. Thanks in advance!

you're looking for a "greeter bot" and yes, they exist.

There ARE bots that use artificial intelligence. They use a chatbot linked to an SL avatar-and-bot program.

Sorry, I can't give you detailed instructions for setting one up. This stuff is beyond me and I just sort of look on in amazement over the shoulders of the people who DO understand it.

all depends on what you wont to do exally but the basic "scripted bot" is posible and are very fun if scripted right

by the way, you don't need a bot to do this. The same thing can be done with scripts and prims.

I think the term 'bot' is being used here in the more general sense, not in the common SL-specific sense of a client-side program that mimics a user sitting at the SL viewer moving around and entering commands.

This would also explain why searching for 'bot' isn't really helpful in this case.
