Notecard mailbox, how to read?

HELP! I have a note card dispenser on my land, I just received two notecards, but when I go into edit to read them it won't let me open them or move them to inventory. How do I open these?

I gather they're stuck in the inventory of the a "notecard mailbox" prim somewhere, and you can't get them out. That might happen if that prim were deeded (not set) to group, in which case one would click the "share" button in the General tab of the editor, and hopefully you'll then be able to Take the object back into inventory, contents intact, and rez it again, this time *not* deeding it to group (but setting it to group is fine). Now, if the object were created with no-mod next owner perms, it's completely useless once it's been deeded to group anyway, but I doubt anyone would set the perms that way.

If it's not deeded to group, or the notecards aren't even in a prim, then we need more details.
