I recently bought an animation, as I was trying to make it work I accidently chose "attach to HUD" First of all I don't even know what that means, and secondly now that animation is gone from my inventory, how can I get it back, and also make it work?

you are probably still wearing it. right click your avatar, and click "DETACH ALL". it should reappear in your inventory. then, to reuse it, don't just click "wear" or it will just go back to hud status. you need to choose "attach to" and choose a destination to attach it to, or "activate" if you want a pop up window you can control. i hope this helps.

Attaching to HUD should not remove it from your inventory.
Attachments have two main catagories. 1) Is the avatar body. Places like NECK, HAND, CHEST, etc. You can physically see these places in-world. Though they may be buried in yoru avatar if small enough. 2) A HUD (Heads Up Display). This is somethign that is seen only on your screen (ie, others in-world will enver see it). It has places like CENTER, TOP, BOTTOM, TOP RIGHT, etc.
If you attached something and can not find it, go into inventory, and in the search pane, type WORN. This will show you all items you have on. From clothes, to attachments (both tyeps). Go through the list and R-Click on the animation and DETACH.
However, I was unaware that you could attach an animation, so you may have run into a glitch. If searching for WORN does not show the animation, try searching for it by the name (if you can remember). If still missing, file a Support Ticket, and visit the Blog. I think it's 3 entries down about filling out a "Missing Inventory Report" that LL has just created.

Animations can't be worn, only played. If you have a physical object, then the animation is either boxed (you need to copy the animation from the object's inventory) or what you have is a "poseball" and it must be sat on (drag the object from your inventory to the ground, right click on it and select "sit"  .
