White Cloud - Help !!!!!!!!!

I have been on SL for over 1 year and until yesterday never had any real avatar problems ... apart from crashing, slow to rez, lag, teleport trouble and all the other annoying things which SL like to present us with !!!!!

Yesterday I logged in and all I saw was the irritating white cloud and a message saying my clothes and skin were still downloading. Waited a while, nothing changed. Logged back in and it was still the same. This went on for approx 2 hours before I finally managed to log on and have a "normal looking" avatar. Had to log out later during the day (real life called) and when I logged back the white cloud was there again. I tried all I could think of, clearing cache, re logging, logging to different location, even resorted to using the Character - Test Female. The white cloud was still there. Some friends saw me as a cloud while a few saw me as an avatar but NOT my normal looking avatar. One saw me as very small, with large hands and feet - bit like when wearing a demo shape.

I have 2 other accounts (ALTS) which I very rarely use. I tried logging in using my alts and everything was perfect. Logged back as my "main" character and the white cloud was there again !!!!!!!!!!!!

Can anyone help please ?

The "white cloud" is the new Ruth, i.e. the temporary placeholder shown before your avatar is available for rendering on the server. Normally it just takes a few seconds for your real self to materialise, but as you noticed sometimes it takes longer. if it does, you may try logging off again and logging on to a low lag location, e.g. a water sim.

Try switching to a different set of clothes, no prim attachments, then clear cache and log on again. Maybe the reason is something you are wearing.

Known issue, some corruption in your inventory. You may wait or raise a support ticket. Which may help or not .

Faster way, reset your AV. To do this go to Advanced menu (CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-D), character, character test and then select either test male or test female. That will reset your AV to the default settings and you will look like newly born . You will lose the shape you wear but that's corrupted anyway.

Before you do that, you may want to note down the various data from your current shape (if you still are able to pull that up) so that you can easily create a new shape with the same parameters.

I'm not quite sure that SL wasn't having massive fits yesterday that would have caused that to happen.

I have not had OP's experience with not loading that a quick hit on "Edit Appearance" didn't fix; but rather, I often get the opposite. I tp somewhere, and everybody is a cloud. Anyone who showed up after me rezzed just fine, but anyone who was there before me just simply never rez. I tp out and back, and all but maybe two people rez in just fine. TP and back again, and the two people who never rezzed the last time I was there are rezzed, but 3/4's of the people who were rezzed just moments before are clouds again.

Sometimes, you just gotta really love SL.

I've had some success at rezzing other people's clouds in my viewer. Zoom your camera in close on a cloud, and hover your mouse cursor over it. This often rezzes the cloud within a few seconds.
