Blackface!

Okay, SL has gone nuts. My skin has darkened to the darkest setting, but only on the head, but not the rest of the body. Clearing cache didn't help. WTF. It's doing it with the entire set of the skins from Naughty. Bizarre!!

Have you been spending a lot of time outside in the sun recently? Try spending some time indoors or traveling outside in midnight setting.

It might be your graphics drivers.

I've had my torso suddenly go black a few times recently after building a new PC and ending up with the latest NVIDIA drivers on it.
THe black thing isn't a constant. It first happened after hours online.

CTRL-ALT-F7 ..... Disable Palletised textures
CTRL-ALT-R ....... Rebake

Worked for me.

I just logged on with my laptop and the dinky Intel 945 driver.

It's not just the nvidia. omg!

there was a bug that made people go black from tip to toe...are we talking totally black or a lot darker?

If its the black bug ive got a folder of stuff you wear that fixes that

It just changed back... but for a while, the skin on my head was the darkest tint possible. It was not a driver issue, as it showed up on two completely different computers with different drivers. Clearing cache and a character test didn't work - clearly it was not a cache issue. That was so bizarre. I was about to get really angry.

Seriously, though, it's probably a palletized texture issue. The fact that it happened on two different machines with completely different hardware and drivers doesn't mean anything. Remember, it's SL's incompatibility that's causing the problem, not the hardware or the drivers themselves.

OH! A lot darker" than what the texture should look like, not a lot darker than black. It took me a minute on that one.

I've had this "darker" face tone a few times myself. I can't ever seem to fix it, but it does go away on it's on. In the meantime, I just use a different viewer and check back often.

Cristalle, interestingly a dress designer friend and I were talking about this bug the other day. A customer contacted her and said one particular shirt she put on changed her face to black. My friend sent her a replacement; same issue. Friend met with the customer to try to figure out what was going on. She told me how they figured out what it was and how they fixed it and said if I ever run across that to let her know. (I'll ask her when I see her in the morning.)

She also said her Partner had a similar thing happen where his face only (not the rest of his skin) turned really dark for one day and then just went back to its normal tone.

It did occur while changing clothes... and it changed back later. That is just really bizarre.... isn't palletized textures a client-side issue? If so, why would it affect two different machines?

It's entirely possible that the same error could be happening on both machines, be it the paletized texture bug, or any other. I can't say for certain that it is the PT bug, of course. But I do think it's likely.
