Hi gang

So anyways I'm in Hanja last night just hanging around... this guy says to me (I assume it was me. I was the only av close by) "hey west". The group tag above my head at the time began with the word "west" and I thought "hmmm.... he looks kinda new, maybe he means me"

So I have a wee nosey at his profile and he's just a few days old. By the time I'd done this on my laggy laptop in a laggy environment he'd typed "doesn't anyone chat round here?"

I got halfway through a reply when he TP'd out/logged off ( I never can tell the difference if there is one)

So I think no more of it but I IM him explaining what could have happened... he was off-line.....ok I think, never mind.

Start SL up today and I got an IM back from this guy.... name deleted to protect the innocent/guilty/whatever and none of the names in this IM are his....

You're probably right that he thought he was in Local Chat.

Just in general--one of the nice features of IM, I think, is that if one IS on a laggy laptop and the other person gets impatient and TPs away, they will still get whatever you write. Even if they've not TPed but actually logged off---they'll get it next time they log on.

I once recieved someone elses IMs, as well as the other person's replies. I wasn't a member of any groups at the time either. It's only happened to me once though.

I remember someone accidentally entering a group chat with a line apologizing to his SL lover that his wife was in the room and that delayed his response earlier... I couldn't resist... I responded, "I hope she doesn't suspect us. (o.o)" ... Gotta a few good laughs out of it. =^-^=

Once I carried on a whole IM conversation with my partner in local chat in a busy club. It was an innocent conversation but still I think ppl were looking at me funny :) I only noticed when my partner finally said "are you there? you are awful quiet"

I have had this happen, got someone else's IM conversation

I have also had folks tell me they have received IM's from me that I never sent (to anyone) and it was while I was logged in... weird eh?

Whenever I do this I always say "mt"... and I invariably get a response that goes something like "huh??????" Once in awhile I'll get someone that says "you use to play WoW, didn't you?"

mhmm...

God I hate wrong im-itius especially when I send the wrong item to wrong friend and it is of personal nature, no going back and retrieving it.

yes i remember a girl who accidently im'ed the australia group (probably a few thousand members, i'v not checked) with something that was quite obviously ment for her lover in the throws of pashion. poor girl couldn't stand the imbarrasment and left SL. well with that AV anyway.

plenty of times i'v come across newbies that struggle with the public chat/private chat windows, especially with the SL lost sim thats open up near me, seem to get new arrivals several times a day that find my place.

I haven't done anything totally out of line, but I've put stuff in the wrong window several times. Lindal seems to be my trigger for this one. If I'm in IM with her and anything at all is going on around me or there are other IM's open, the wrong message will go in her window every single danged time. She flusters me or something.

mt = mistell or misstell (being it is not a real word not sure how one would spell it hehe)

basically an im that went to the wrong window (or a mis-tell)

You don't have to be a newbie. I did it a couple nights ago. Nothing embarassing though. Heck, I still forget to press ENTER before chatting and I jump up in the air as soon as I hit "e."

I'm wondering what all the T, 110, F1, and 1010's mean. Must be text message speak I'm too old to know about.

I think your situation is partly why I'm reclusive in world. I get frustrated at people wandering off before I can key one of my long winded sentences that no one wants to wade through, and it takes me longer than normal anyway because I'm a bit nervous trying to rush, and so make keying errors that I can't tolerate and must fix. :o

Yeah, Weston, I do accidental arial summersaults all the time.

I was having quite a bit of fun with a girl who, well, liked it real hard, so to speak. I was doing my best, but accidentally typed a particularly rambunctious (and unmistakable) line into my IM window to my SL partner.

My heart skipped a few beats.

She laughed her ass off. Gotta love that girl! We're still together (though not SL-partnered at this time), nearly two years now. She encourages my exploits, seems to get a genuine kick out of it.
