Hi,
I want to divide my property into two parcels. Is there an easy way to divide the land exactly where and in the size that I want to? I find the native tools in SL to be very cumbersome.

Thx,
BT

you can't cut land wherever you want it. MIN. size is 4x4
So if you have a 12x12 parcel you can't make 2 parcels of 6x12
one will be 4x12 and the other 8x12

The best way to divide oddly-shaped land or to divide land into oddly-shaped parcels it to cut it into smaller parcels - even 16m - and then join the smaller parcels into the final larger one(s)

It just takes some trial and error. Select, then subdivide. If it isn't perfect you can cut a new piece and join it to a piece until you get the sizes and shapes you like.

Go to view/land owners in your top toolbar and it will show your land a different color than surrounding land. Sometimes that helps.

Only option I am aware of is the land tool built into the client.

Once you get the hang of it it's not so bad, and you can practice selecting without committing the divide.

First thing to do is to turn on Parcel Boundaries in the viewer, it's in the View menu (I think - going from bad memory)

If you are chopping a standard parcel into two smaller ones - say a 2048 to two 1024's then it's simple. Just right click the parcel, choose Edit Terrain, then click and drag from one corner to the opposite corner of the section to be cut off. This will highlight it in yellow.

Let go the mouse and an info window will pop up showing the size of the parcel highlighted. If this is correct then clicking the Divide button will split the land off. Be patient, it can take a few seconds to show up in the viewer.

Be aware that dividing and joining land will reset some parcel settings so you need to check these after the operation. Other resident object return for one always resets to 0 minutes so is effectively turned off.

Unless someone knows better, you can only select rectangular blocks of land so making an irregular division involves dividing off parts and then rejoining them. Can be tedious, but gets the job done.

Cheers,
Rime

Maybe the website hiccoughed or something.

Ahhh - I replaced it with 'choose' must have been 'select' followed by 'edit' that did it.
